Ultimately there is no ‘both sides’ when there’s such a power imbalance. One is funded to the tune of billions by the US as a de facto military base in the Middle East and the other is not.
Even if we use Oct 7 in isolation as a starting point, Israel have more than paid them back in terms of revenge. To the point where they’re possibly the most hated nation on the planet and their carefully cultivated PR campaign over the past few decades lies in ruins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only positive that comes from this is that they have created the conditions for their own exposure and been completely obliterated in the PR department. Hopefully in future it will lead to real change in the region.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw that Hamas said they’d give up their military wing if Israel agreed to go back to pre 1967 borders. Wishful thinking that’s a doable thing from Israel but eventually might be the only way out of this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a clear international consensus - and has been for decades - to begin meaningful conflict resolution by returning to the 1967 border with "mutual and minor modifications", blocked repeatedly by the US and Israel.
That's very likely dead in the water, though a framework was agreed in 2001 at Taba, called off by Israel, and then never returned to. It's not really clear where the issue goes from here now.
Israel have been abhorrent in their actions in the region throughout my lifetime and Iran have been stirring the $hit in the middle east since well before Gerard Butler put on his loin cloth.
======
Why would Iran stir the pot in their own region when doing that is detrimental to them? Aren't they reacting to historical outside forces that have interfered and meddled in the affairs of the region for decades, all in an attempt to control the region's wealth and natural resources?

Christ, we are really through the looking glass here if everyone is backing Iran. It's worth reminding everyone that this particular conflict all started on October 7th, with the butchering of innocent civilians. I'm not defending Israel on their actions since, but let's not pretend this is one-sided. Hamas are a terrorist organisation deliberately putting innocent people in harms way. They could have evacuated the strip long ago but they don't care. Also, where are the hostages? This is not a one-sided debate. There should be sympathy on both sides. I'm sick of this "free palestine" bulllshiiiiit. I mean, do you guys have any idea who you're backing when you say stuff like that?
If we're now at a stage where the west is backing Iran against Israel, then there really is no hope for humanity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Does everything have to be separated into "sides" in the social media age?
I've not really seen anyone "backing" Iran, but highlighting that Isreal struck first and have now escalated a situation that could have been put to bed.
There doesn't need to be sides... You can say that Hamas are cunnnts and Netanyahu/IDF are cunnnts. USA/Russia/UK are hypocritcal, meddling and supplying weapons etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Israel struck first? Sorry, what? Did October 7th not happen?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In that sentence, I was talking about the missile strike, you know, the point of this article.
I thought that would be obvious, but clearly need to move down a few more rungs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They killed a general in Syria who was in charge of militias that were targeting Israel with rockets
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The bombing of the embassy was illegal, and it also killed civilians.
But let's take Israel's claim about the general at face value and even momentarily agree that he was fair game (I don't actually think that, but let's roll with it).
Are you now in favour or accepting of Palestinian or Lebanese factions targeting UK personnel or high ranking government officials in any embassy (including on UK soil) if they are in a governmental position that helps maintain support for Israel? Would you accept Hamas assassinating Admiral Ben Key given that the Royal Navy conduct joint training and exercises with Israel in the Gaza sea, de facto supporting the sea blockade?
I assume you wouldn't, which would be a curious contradiction.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’ve illegally invaded whole countries ourselves.
There will never be peace in the region, it’s a title sheetshow and I understand why most of the states want to stay well out.
It’s far too complex to blame or support one side, both have committed atrocities in the past and the current generation of both Israelis and Palestines are fighting their great parents wars.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but the solution is for Israel to return to its own intended borders and protect their land, stop the apartheid and leave the Palestine to it's own destiny.
If they had done that from the start instead of trying to grab Palestine for their illegal settlements we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
You want to talk about both sides but I'm every conflict there is always the original aggressor or the core problem that keeps the conflict alive.
You talk a lot about history and both sides blah blah blah but don't want to zone in on the crux of this conflict because you don't want to face the truth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And this is the point you lot don't seem to grasp and we go around in circles.
Jerusalem doesn't belong to the Muslims in their minds. The Jews were there 1500 years earlier. It's their holy land. Islam was created much much later in history and ironically have three holy lands including Medina and Mecca.
Not only that but many people in that faith say the Qur'an is the final word of god.
If that's not antagonistic in nature then I don't know what is.
So the situation is a lot more complex than people are claiming it to be and the mere suggestion that Israel should just abandon it's Holy Land for good.
And why does a faith need three holy lands anyway is another question I want answers to?
Maybe the Muslims should abandon Jerusalem and be happy with Mecca and Medina?

Aren't they reacting to historical outside forces that have interfered and meddled in the affairs of the region for decades,
...........
I am sure the people who defend Israel ask the same question of Iran.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, because they're stoopid mostly. Israel has problems because they occupy other lands and treat people who live there like sheet. If they kept their borders and left others alone and were still attacked, then they'd have a point.
As for Iran, they expelled our oil people, our bankers, our systems and we can't get at their wealth unless we change their regime and replace it with one that will bend to our will.
For this purpose we must brand them as the bad guys and a threat to regional and global peace and therefore deserving to be interfered with, meddled with and even invaded eventually.
Not only that but many people in that faith say the Qur'an is the final word of god.
If that's not antagonistic in nature then I don't know what is.
======
All the religions say that, including Judaism and Christianity.
Surely you know this so what the fack is wrong with you?
Why is it antagonistic when Islam says that when everyone else says it and doesn't get labelled antagonistic?
Jerusalem doesn't belong to the Muslims in their minds. The Jews were there 1500 years earlier. It's their holy land.
=====
The Jews found the ancestors of the Palestinians living there 1500 years earlier, no? Or was the land empty 1500 years earlier?
Since that time, Jews have been trying to get rid of natives of that region on the basis that the land had been given to them by God, no?
So the situation is a lot more complex than people are claiming it to be and the mere suggestion that Israel should just abandon it's Holy Land for good.
=====
Nobody has suggested that.
And why does a faith need three holy lands anyway is another question I want answers to?
Maybe the Muslims should abandon Jerusalem and be happy with Mecca and Medina?
=====
God help us. I can't stand the genius.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well because they weren't all created at the same time were they genius?
If one religion is set up over 1000 years later, and they happen to live close by to each other, and start saying this is the actual final word of god then it's going to upset folk isn't it?
I'm not a religious person myself. I think they are all equally stupid and made up. I'm just putting myself in the shoes of a Christian or Jew.
Your solution seems to be the Jews give up the West Bank which would include Jerusalem. That would then leave the Jewish people without it's natural holy land and the Muslims get to keep all three of theirs.
Sounds incredibly fair to me that? 🙃

In fact the entire European Union, UK, US, Canada, and many more countries don't recognise Palestine as a country.

You can't be naive enough to not understand there are many factors here past just "we are allies".
Isreal is the west's strategic point in the region and also a gold mine for their military sales.
It's not about "knowing better", but it is, at least partly, about seeing a bigger picture.
btw - most of those countries were also part of the Iraq "war on terror"... Did you blindly trust them then too?

All the religions say that, including Judaism and Christianity.
Surely you know this so what the fack is wrong with you?

Why is it antagonistic when Islam says that when everyone else says it and doesn't get labelled antagonistic?

The Jews found the ancestors of the Palestinians living there 1500 years earlier, no? Or was the land empty 1500 years earlier?
Since that time, Jews have been trying to get rid of natives of that region on the basis that the land had been given to them by God, no?

Nobody has suggested that.

It puzzles me that ostensibly the same person has written:

Israel are our allies. The US and the UK along with a hell of lot more countries are standing with them.
In fact the entire European Union, UK, US, Canada, and many more countries don't recognise Palestine as a country.
But nevermind as a few people on 606 know better than all the biggest DEMOCRACIES on earth. 😂

I hate GB news. It's absolute crap. Wouldn't give it a second of my day.
How do you feel about your native land being team Israel? Are you ashamed?
Go and move to Iran if that's how you feel. If living in a land of no democracy, terrorism, persecution of homosexuals and a million more human rights offences is your bag then don't let us stop you Robb.
Woke brigade fighting for Hamas and Iran. 😂 Welcome to 2024. The most confused time to be alive ever.
