I'd loved to have seen in these last 2 friendlies Gareth just try something a bit different and even with a suspect defence a midfield and attack of Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Eze, Saka and Palmer would I think have definitely got the Wembley crowd going.

I forgot Bellingham wasn't available tonight or in the last game so I would have probably played Mainoo instead and with the other 5 I'd be amazed if England at least didn't score a couple and be entertaining at the same time.

Marino was terrible last night, he wasn’t alone there though.

He looked mentally and physically exhausted after the CL cup final? He’s still far too young to carry the hopes of a nation and a deluded MysticMug.

I don’t particularly blame any of the players, it was your typical last game before the competition type of performance in that none of them were going flat out.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and think it was just getting some combinations working together, but if that was a competitive game, then the tactics were shown to be wrong within the first twenty minutes and we didn’t really change it.

Had to get more width, instead we seemed to want try and overload the middle, which was never going to work. It’s no wonder none of the forward players looked particularly good aside from the few moments Gordon stayed wide and ran down the line.

If there's one thing Southgate's tenure with England has shown it's results outside of major tournaments mean absolutely jack sh!t. The losses serve as confirmation bias to the people who want him sacked & not much else.

He's probably gunna resign whatever happens after these Euro's, but until an England team managed by him don't turn up at a major tournament there's no need for the FA to sack him. Fostering a great atmosphere among players (which he's always done) is 10x more valuable than tactical nous, especially at International level because it's harder to do.

When he leaves, the natural replacement is Potter for this reason. You don't want to lose Southgate's leadership style cos English players obviously respond to it going off the last 8 years, and Potter's similarly laid back & diplomatic, but he's a much better tactician.
