Regardless of whether he's the next Gazza or not,
the reason we failed last season was an unbalanced,
under manned squad. Square peg United. The club
did not add to the squad when they should've.

We had barely any rotation. Farke didn't trust enough
of his squad. Upshot, squad was completely knackered.

Is Rothwell the answer? Fck no. Is he a decent addition?
Yes. Do we need to add more to the squad? Hell yes.

I'm willing to give the club the benefit until the window
is closed. If the club has just rinsed and repeated the
same slew of fck ups as last season then, we as a
collective are fcked. And doubtful we go up.

Farke/49ers have a lot to do. It's all on them.

He was a regular starter for 6 year at Oxford and then Blackburn. Earned a move to the Premier League but suffered a quad injury in pre season and was out until November. Struggled to force his way into regular starting at Bournemouth for next year and went out on loan to Soton. Yes, he couldn’t force his way past Downes/Smallbone but them two played Leeds off park 3 times last season. He still contributed to their promotion and scored that stunning volley.

I do think (particularly if no further outgoings) that the loan market is the right way this season. We need to be careful financially and don’t want to be in a position where we have to sell someone end of the season again. For me with 22 players now we are ready for the season to start and we are heavy faves for the title. Just hope no nasty news to come

We find hidden gems or tolerate this level of signing, realities of failing to get back to the PL and PSR, irrespective of major investment this league tempers what the club can do without reverting back to the previous historical nonsense syndrome.

Let's get behind Rothwell, he's ours now where as some of the others may not be by September.

. .Well probably for at least a season!

give the lad a chance ffs

Whos not given him a chance ?

Says it all for a 29 year old English player when I had to google him.

Never seen him play but 19 games in the championship last season is underwhelming.

Sounds like he's more similar to Kamara than Gruev. Can take a set piece too.

An underwhelming signing but Farke must see something in him.

Its a loan signing so I assume it might be one of those stop gap signings and we sign someone better if promoted. We have to accept we are a Championship club and we aren't going to attract top players.

Look at Sheff Utd signing Shackleton

posted on 12/7/24

It’s not so much a matter of who we sign, it’s more a question of whether he is better than who our opponents are signing. At the present time, this is the best midfield signing in this division pre-season.

Looks like a deal for Kamara to Rennes is all but done.

Rothwell must be his replacement.

Interesting to read today that Leeds put 50% sell on clauses for Max Dean and Elia Caprile, when we all thought they'd just been released on frees. c. £1.5m income.
Maybe, just maybe, Leeds are finally learning how to play the game properly.

Must confess to knowing nowt about Rothwell, but €10m for Kamara is good business, he and Gruev have just been steady Eddies. Hopefully this goes through and Gruev is scooped up by Dortmund for most likely a similar fee.

Probably says more about your football knowledge to be fair. Lad was on the bench in the playoff final!

I’d say it’s more of an underwhelming welcome from the Leeds fans than an underwhelming signing. Seriously cannot believe the number of folk saying they’ve never heard of him when he was discussed several times over in the January window and then went on to the play for a direct rival for 5 months. Scored one of goals of championship season too.

He also played 11 times in the Prem last year

I like to think that at the start of last season Farke must have thought there was a chance of things going the wrong way, but players brought in were players nobody outside the club had on their radar!..

Think its been seen that the club have found players to do things how they want them doing, so I'll do what I've always done and sit back and see what happens!..

Feel better with the signings we're now making than those for the last number of years!..

You say that but Caprile gets nowhere near our first team yet last season played on loan from Napoli as first choice keeper for Empoli in Serie A. We seemed to have failed to identify a decent goalkeeper there and maybe should have been playing him instead of Meslier.
Dare I say it, major faux-pas employing Orta's mate for so long.

Totally agree.

He might not be a wow signing.

He's exactly what we need, experienced,
rock solid top-end of the Championship/bottom-
end of the Prem player. Always liked the lad.

Deja Vu and all that, but, I'm going to try and
hold my hysteria until we know what the squad
actually consists of once the actual games
start. I do feel like the 49ers and staff know
what they're doing.

Haha. Ridiculous statement.
You're saying Leeds should have played Caprile, our 3rd choice goalie at the time, instead of Meslier?
Yeah right.
Name me any manager in the history of football who would have made that decision?

I won't wait .

Probably not but certainly failed to identify a proper talent at the club, one who by the looks of things could turn out to be a better keeper than Meslier, and you are talking about sell on fees.
Abad failed to bring him through.
Should certainly have been challenging at the club last season and given the fact he was playing top flight football and Meslier the league below would he have been our 3rd choice.
