Foden's a completely different sort of player, there's no reason both of them can't play in the same England team.

Due to injury, Foden hasn't even started a game yet this season but apparently people think he's finished.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think people are judging based on what he brings to England and time and time again Foden doesn't turn up for them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm pretty certain that'll change now Southgate's gone
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Imo Southgate played Foden and Bellingham out of position. I don't give a feck where Bellingham plays for RM, for England his best position is at an 8. That would have allowed Foden to play in his more natural position.

Yes, he was seething when he collected his League Winners Medal.
---------------------------------------------------
Could've said the same thing about Mourinho in 2015 after we'd sold De Bryune & Salah for chicken change.

A balls up is a balls up at the end of the day. You shouldn't have sold him let alone for just 40mil, that was a mistake.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He wanted to leave, it wasn't like by was dragged out of the gates by the balls.

Hindsight is showing you should've prioritized him cos he's good enough & has age on his side.

Foden doesn’t have a natural position. Pep’s played him all over the bloody place, and he’s been able to perform in a many of those positions.

In those same positions for England he’s been crap. It’s such a cop out blaming the manager for Foden’s players when so many others have performed for England. Some players just don’t perform for their country like they do their club, the players need to own that.

So do you wish Southgate was still England manager then?

Not that it’s relevant to the argument, but I probably would have. I don’t think we’ll see his replacement match his tournament record.

Depends if the new manager matches Southgate's level of good fortune.

I don't see why if we get more good draws in future, then with all these talented players we can't still go far.

Yep, where I stand.

Personally can't wait to see England playing better football with a better manager (I don't deny both of these things are highly likely), and still not beating better countries or winning anything

Whether it will be a better manager in an England context remains to be seen.

I quite like the idea of Carsley getting the permanent gig, and think we’d be more entertaining, but our tournament record across Southgate’s time is comfortably the best in our history.

People seem to be under the assumption that he’s a shiiiiit manager and a better one would do much better. But England fans are arguablythe most stupid and entitled group of fans around, which says a lot when you remember that Liverpool fans exist.

He asked to leave, Pep has stated that dozens of times and always stands by the fact that the door is always open to players who wish to go elsewhere.

He played (and scored) in both the Super Cup and the Community Shield just before he left - It wasn't like he was out of favour.

Yeah that's fair. Better in a tactical sense!

If we'd have let Holland go (the brain in the camp) and kept Southgate, I'd have been happy with that. Seen it as a reasonable response to Euro 2024 where we were pretty bad.

That's just me though, rest of the country wouldn't be happy at all

Yeah Pep said stay or go, no loan, and he went "alright, I'll go then"

There was a pecking order that he wasn't happy with, he wanted to stay & play for Man City. My point is Pep made a misjudgement on that pecking order.

OK, you know best

Mahrez had gone, Doku wasn't even in our sights but somehow he was way down a pecking order he was top of being a natural right sided player.

He asked to stay, but go on loan. Pep said no, the choice is stay or go, no loanoption.

So for example, had Pep been more flexible, and actually allowed a loan, then Palmer would probably still be at City.

This, no time like the present.

I know its not football, but could you ever imagined the suits at the ECB giving an English Tandulkar his debutvat 16? They'd have waited until he was 30.
