Could get that with some spare change actually thanks
More one for stats nerds like me.
But apparently they’ve used machine learning to train AI to count the amount of times a player blocks a passing lane or pressures an opposite player. The level of advanced data out there now is so high.

That is interesting. I do think that's the next big step for the game, who can make best use of that data. It's no good having it if you fill the players' heads with stuff they don't understand and don't need to know.

He had a pop at me over not being entirely behind Mourinho when he joined us and I said I wasn’t going to take advice from someone who thought we should have had Paddy Kenny as our number 1. I think there was a bit of back and forth and I said everyone was fed up of him banging on about his wedding to his fat wife to be. Childish stuff.
Oh yeah the Covid wedding in Italy.

Tbf they have been doing that for 15 years. Even Big Sam Bolton days he had Bolton players standing in certain positions from corners as that’s where it was the highest % location the ball would be cleared to.
Proper big data analytics has been around in football though for at least a decade - you have to even listen to the Maddison interview from the other day to see how much work they do with analysts etc.
Brentford, RB Salzburg are prime examples of a teams who have succeeded with the use of data. Leicester and Liverool are data heavy too.
Aston Villa about 5 years back when relegated under Sir Tim used it to a ridiculous degree when signing their players. Who didn’t work out then but the likes of Ndidi now are the best players in their position in the league
Big Sam's Bolton team aka the streets won't forget FC

Yeah for sure stats have a big impact already. I'm just saying management isn't a science yet. IMO anyway. Maybe Klopp got closest with it but I bet losing at home to Burnley wasn't rating very highly in their models.
Obviously just following the stats doesn't always get the result you expect, but neither will just shouting at them to run around. I expect the next generation of managers will get a lot more consistency over a longer period than we're seeing right now.
If it’s your kind of thing I’d read this book:
Football Hackers: The Science and Art of a Data Revolution
It’s pretty interesting and enlightening
