Yeh it’s a bit weird we have Standard Grades, Highers and then Advanced highers - which you do in your 4th, 5th and 6th (final) year. GSCEs as a degree of difficulty sit between SGs and Highers, A levels between Highers and advanced Highers.

When I was at school though Scottish uni’s took you in based on your higher results - meaning that once I got 4As and a B I knew I didn’t need to try in 6th year and just took classes for fun like woodworking.

If you wanted to go to an English uni you needed Adv Highers but I didn’t see the point as the education wasn’t free and was a year shorter
