That was a good thread. Nice to see the stats back up what we can all see with our eyes. Horrid, limited CBs and a #9 who plays as a nine-and-a-half, which only works if you have goalscorers in attacking midfield and out wide.

I'm not sure it's helpful to blame Mourinho at this point. While the semi against Ajax was exciting the league form had been awful that whole season, we struggled to create and break teams down when Eriksen didn't play.

I'm not saying Nuno is going to be the next Poch or anything but I'm not sure how much better it could get. Fans weren't happy with counter attacking football under Jose even when results and goals were coming. Let's be honest, they want possession. And as I see it we don't have the players. Ndombele is press resistant and can see a pass etc. Maybe Lo Celso? The rest of them do their jobs fine but they're not going to control a game.

My point is, we should be patient. We haven't got a settled defence, midfield or attack right now. Any best XI we put down is theoretical.

I’m not blaming Mourinho. What I’m saying is, the fans were unhappy at being subjected to 18 months of negative football under him and, as a result, that puts Nuno on the back foot earlier than he would’ve been by employing the same tactics. I don’t think it’ll be tolerated for 18 months again, the hangover from Jose’s tenure will shorten the patience with what Nuno is offering.

Also, I don’t think results were ever ‘coming’ with Jose. We had about a six week spell where we whacked Utd, turned it round against Southampton then beat City and Arsenal with a couple of smash and grabs. Before and after that it was dire with indifferent results. There was never a period of sustained good results with Jose. His tenure was interrupted by the first lockdown, then there were no fans in the stadiums for most of the rest of it.

I don't disagree. Obviously people are tired of seeing us not dominate the possession stats and creating lots of chances. My point is any manager would struggle with this lot. Besides the obvious Jose factor the undercurrent behind the lack of patience is - and maybe I'm wrong - the feeling that we shouldn't have sacked Poch. That things would be alright if we just went back and/or hired a manager in his mold.

Sure we could be more attack minded but from what I saw of the Rennes game it sums us up right now. Kind of disjointed. I'm not saying Nuno has been perfect but any stretch, but there's only so much any manager can do in a few weeks with key players missing.

If we accept that the squad is severely lacking in key areas you need to dominate possession and play that attractive style, we have to be patient. I mean, we could look enviously at what Tuchel has done with Chelsea but he only had to tweak what they had. I'd argue that Potter, Bielsa, heck even Pep, would struggle to get this lot playing as we did in 2016/17.

lets be honest all bshit from levy re the appointment of the manager complete threw poor Nuno under the bus from the start.
