Will be a game at some point where he gets exposed and we need to shore up with Chilwell again

Has Chilwell not been great at Chelsea? I always assumed he was comfortably the better player. I don't really understand how slow wing backs can ever work

Think we looked way better defensively with Chilwell in the position

Best xGA by some distance (4.5 better than Brighton and City) last year since Tuchel's first game in charge and Chilwell was starter for most of that

So far this season we are like 5th best in that stat - i think it will come undone at some point but the results havent shown it

We’ve usually been a team of late that has few chances but is usually clinical - that’s not even the case currently. Against Chelsea you expect Kane to bury that outside of the box chance roughly half the time and Son took a real bad touch when Kepa rushed out well.

Even aside from that they both didn’t look as devastating with any of their decisions in the final third.

I liked the tactic of it being Son up top with Kane as a left attacking mid with the reason of getting Kane involved with play and Son targeting T.Silva’s lack of pace. Unfortunately our passing wasn’t quite crisp enough and Silva put in the performance of his life.

Defensively thats pretty standard from him, he's usually immaculate and its basically all from his reading of the game (barring that West Brom fiasco)

I never saw him for Milan much but he always looked immense for PSG

Who are the best players that relied on athleticism but managed to adapt away from it as they got older?

Sherringham and Crouch!

Also Ronaldo

I don't know that Sheringham ever relied on physicality. Good call on Crouch, though

Rio maybe?

Tbf i dont think he lost much pace til the end though and he was always a cerebral defender

posted on 21/9/21

Yeah it's tough init. Usually if a player relies on physical ability they're not good enough to adapt later on.

I feel like Rooney could've been one if he'd given up thefags

Silva and Giggs are good shouts

Roberto Carlos as well

To go over the game again, some of the podcasts have been so off regarding it all. TFS labelling Tuchel as a tactical genius for the Kante sub - but while he is obvs one of the best managers in the world - I think subbing off an underperforming midfielder for a world class midfielder doesn’t require much acumen.

There was a different tactical change in formation around the 35 minute mark to nullify Ndombele which was more effective. However scoring off one of your first corners and a massive deflection from a hit and hope changed the dynamic way more significantly
