Mixture of both, plus Edu I guess.
Arteta clearly wanted to build from the back, which is a totally valid strategy but we keep having to throw money at the problem because we always have about 4 left backs out injured at any one time.
Kroenke did not refuse big money on a striker. We have spent massively in the last few seasons and you may have noticed something called PSR.
We also have 2 expensive strikers that Arteta seems to like. We have two left sided attackers, a youngster who massively impressed a couple of seasons ago and a more experienced competition who has done a job. On the other side we have the best young right attacker around and have back up in a very experienced title winner.
Really not sure where the Kroenke blame can be found, was he meant to spend a billion a year??? Arteta and Edu shaped the squad and got the men they wanted.

Nowadays you need a bigger squad due to the many games which are being played without a rest. Kroenkes get away too much. Arteta is a very good manager, but he needs help from the top though these guys are stingy with investments. Also, you sometimes don't get it right for every transfer. If Arsenal has someone like Isak it changes everything massively. Edu and Arteta tried to buy quality, but it cost too much and Kroenke want someone like Wenger who buys them time. So, they can collect their earnings without hassle. However, Edu refused that and legged it.
It's 2025 tomorrow, and people are still running the "kroenkes are cheap" myth. They've spent loads of money, it's not even up for debate.
Stingy with investment
That is why we have a £35m flop on loan at Porto. A £200m midfield 3 of Partey, Rice and Merino.
I dunno, I think we have missed an opportunity this season by not spending much money this summer and I would imagine that was necessary to meet PSR rather than being a Kroenke directive. That's because we have spent a lot over the past few seasons and we've been historically bad at shifting player too.
Should have signed Isak for £150m and taken the 30 point hit...

I don't think Havertz is a striker, but I understand Arteta likes him, though he has lost interest in G. Jesus since last season. That is why we need a top name who can replace G. Jesus. Klopp might not have managed some games properly last season, but he got it right the firepower he signed for Liverpool Jota, Gakpo, Diaz, and even Nunez, who has his days at times. Kroenke should be saying what do you need, but i don't think he cares about Arsenal winning anything or not. He only pays attention to the fans, especially when they protest.
I don't think he lost interest, he just proved himself that he can't be relied upon in terms of injuries and form.
Say what you like about Havertz but he's always available and always puts in a shift with his performances being at a steady level.
Kroenke should be saying what do you need,
======
And fack PSR and take a massive points deduction??
He did say that anyway, and the answer was a very expensive full back and an expensive midfielder after Edu couldn't convince Sesko to come (allegedly).
though he has lost interest in G. Jesus

The man currently starting?? He never lost faith in him, just his injuries made him not selectable...
Lots of reports coming out today that we are looking to get an attacker in this January. I think we will do it.
Cunha for £100m is doing the rounds?

Yeah just reading one from Mokbel saying money won't be an issue for us. Obviously hope that's true to a degree, but don't want us getting bent over for a panic buy.

Mbuemo is out of contract in 18 months. I think £40/50M should be enough to get him. Brentford should comfortably finish mid table even without him.
Lookman is another one who is out of contract in 18 months.
Westham are not selling Kudus in January especially with Bowen getting injured now.
Who knows who we will get but I would take Mbuemo or Lookman anyway

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who said you will get it right for every signing? Rice's signing was ostentatious. It was designed to buy time and quieten down fans' disagreement, and it did. Buying quality is hard now or you could send scouts to South America, or Africa and take a risk on it. We lack a top striker if we don't get it next season players such as Saliba and Saka will leave the club.
No-one. But the money was spent so how can Kroenke be blamed? Is he meant to scout the player, do the negotiations and seal the deal???

Let's not kid ourselves. Arteta does not believe in G. Jesus. He plays him when he scores, but when it is not working he is the 1st sub to come off like against the Ipswich game. Perhaps, if he showed the same faith as Havertz, then I would have thought, Arteta likes G.Jesus too much not buy a striker. However, i don't think that is the case.

I hope Jesus scores a few more this season and stays injury free. Only way we will be able to sell him in the summer and recoup some of his fee.

Cunha doesn't really fit in. For the money he would cost it wouldn't make sense to spend that for a player who needs shoe-horning into the XI.
