Clearly not Arteta's fault ... Manager dont sign players anymore, all they can do is tell the club want or need a player, then hope the club follow through.
Edu oversees transfers.
30 plus signings under Arteta where he has loaded up on goalkeepers and defenders.
Arteta is equally to blame
Arteta would have just gone after some other wide forward/converted 10 rather than the battering ram Arsenal need

Msybe that’s why Arsenal didn’t sign anyone??????
Edu works for Nottingham Forest now!
Arteta wanted players, this is clear... and I think the money will be released if we get the right deal lined up.
I am beginning to think we just have a serious lack of talent at the club in terms of people who make transfers happen. I don't know whether it's overall strategy at board level, or scouting/identifying targets, or negotiation, or just a general understanding of the market... but we just appear to not be able to get things done.
If we seriously threw all our eggs into the Ollie Watkins basket, knowing full well that Duran was 90% sure to be off to Saudi, then that's just inept.

They are saying that the Ollie deal was done before Duran had a bid to Saudi, Villa wanted £60M for him, we bid £40m, also it was Villa who offered him according to the athletic

That does give it another complexion, but still they had time to pivot to other options (if they had them) once it became clear that the Duran move was realistic, and that would be a better deal for Villa. From what Gunnerblog said on the Arseblog podcast, it sounds like Arsenal became too attached to the idea of the Watkins deal, perhaps at the expense of keeping other options open (which is something we've seen before). I mean it's not like there are a dearth of options in Jan, but it's surprising that other than Watkins there weren't even rumours of anything else happening.

2 decent years you might get out of hom for £60M doesn't make sense.
Anyone we did sign would have probably got injured within a week and be out for 3 months therefore this is a saving of 60 odd million.
I dont see us catching Liverpool. We are in a battle with Forest for 2nd.
As for the CL -No chance
Turning around a 2-0 deficit vs Newcastle - Not going to happen. We just stuffed a very poor City side who didnt offer much. Newcastle will be a different proposition altogether
