It’s a combination of things tbh as he was poor in games also against non premier league sides. His confidence was obviously gone and the price tag was too heavy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe we can sell him for 30 million and buy him back for 45 million.
Do you think he would play better with a 45 million price tag as opposed to 81 million?

Ah.....all these years of pronouncing the PL the bestest thing ever with the best teams because of all its money and repeatedly being proved wrong season after season, I see many PL fans will still never be rid of their completely unearned sense of superiority.

You say fans, but, every top manager says the same thing too, pep, Klopp, etc.
They don’t say that, though.
La Liga isn’t pants outside those teams, however, I don’t think the history of the league doing well in Europe is a good argument for the current state of La Liga.
I don’t watch it as much as I used to, but from what I have seen and read, and what their doing in Europe compared to previous years, suggests there’s been a decline in the quality of the league over the last few years.
That said, I reckon Antony’s doing well more because the environment suits him as much as it being because the league’s pants.

Their saying it's the best league in the world given the organization, attendances, global viewership, extraordinary wealth etc is different from claiming it has the best teams or best quality of football. The latter claims has never had much evidence. Man U beating Real Sociedad who have lost 13 matches in La Liga this season (almost half their fixtures), and just 7 points above the relegation zone, doesn't somehow prove that "the league is pants past the top 4 or 5".
I remember when people always claimed La Liga was just the "sunny SPL" in the peak years of Messi and Ronaldo, even though the teams outside the top 2 (the Athleticos and Sevillas) would routinely beat the crap out of PL teams in European competition.
He probably just suits La Liga and Europe better so we should get a good fee for him which is imo the best case scenario for all concerned.

Seems like a player who is talented but just not quick enough to be very productive in the PL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can think of many problems with Antony’s game, but speed and acceleration weren’t on the list?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How many times did you see him burn past a full back from a standing start?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ten Hag said he was the fastest player in the PL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part of the man reasons Ten Hag is a former manager. His delusion when it came to Antony was borderline psychotic

In my perception, his acceleration was not good at PL level, and certainly not good enough to enjoy a competitive edge when up against an isolated full back.

Happy to watch you try to beat a mouse across a field
Isn't it 2 goals in 6 games (albeit he was subbed in a few of those). I'm hoping he does well to get a decent fee but I don't see any way back for him at united
Tbh let’s be real how many big fee players have worked here?
Speed shows Antony is one of the quicker players. I think he just had zero confidence to take anyone on. His whole game went bad. He will do well elsewhere
For example I think Bruno is being limited at this club badly. Would be interesting to see him in side with competent players. He currently players with strikers that can’t score and midfielders who are useless.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough. That was the day before, and I'd forgotten overnight how I phrased it. He may have reached high top speeds but wasn't quick enough in the key area that determines ability to beat a defender in most situations, namely explosive acceleration.
There are wide men slower than Antony like grealish who have done well in the prem. issue is not that simple. It was a combination of price tag, United being a mess (how many wide men have actually done well?), off the field issues, and confidence. That more so than ability.
I don’t agree though. I just think he’s not a very intelligent footballer.

I'll rephrase, since you didn't like the way I made my point. Antony was able to consistently outfox defenders at Ajax, and has immediately been more productive in La Liga. I think the key difference is that in the PL defenders give you less space and time, and the median full back is more rapid. And the ability to accelerate faster than your opponent in a duel is critical for putting them on the back foot, creating that sliver of time and space where options open up and better decisions can be made. Antony's confidence was definitely suffering at United, but I don't think that happened in a vacuum. It's something that exacerbated a lack of competitive edge he discovered he suffered from due to not being able to give PL defenders twisted blood.
I may be wrong, but I don't think this point is silly.
