Shankland is exactly where he belongs - at a big diddy team. He'll be remembered in time as a good SPFL player, but he's not even as good as Dessers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Daft take, typical old firm snobbery that’s seen us miss out on good Scottish players in recent years. Used to be standard that we’d pick up the best Scottish players from other teams in league, and that contributed to a lot of winning teams.

Neither should be starting for us as first choice. Shankland is a better player in majority of games in Scotland, why he was players player of season last year. Dessers will be on at least three times what Shankland would, you’d also get a few million for Dessers, Shankland would be free. Shankland counts as homegrown, and is good enough as a player to play as an attacking midfielder. As a squad player would far rather have Shankland and spend any money on someone that improves our first xi.

It’s idiotic to have guys like Dessers, who aren’t good enough to start for us and are only going to decline, on big money as backup.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The best players from other team in the league - the likes of Lennon Miller now, Aaron Hickey, Lewis Ferguson etc previously - aren't interested in signing for us, they want to get out of the SPFL entirely. This isn't like the old days anymore. Shankland isn't the amongst the best Scottish players from the other teams, he's just among the best that wasn't able to establish himself outside of the league.

Shankland was right here in Glasgow under the noses of the big 2. All these teams scouting Andy Robertson and Blair Spittal didn't notice him and Rangers decided Kevin Kyle was their man. He then went to have a mixed bag career in Scotland and still nobody bit. POTY pash and still nobody bit. Now he's on his last deal and nobody is making money back even if he scores a goal a game.

He's not a modern forward. Has little pace or athleticism and relies on a decent turn, being able to keep the ball in tight situations and good reading of the game. He's found his level. Being cheap doesn't make it a good deal for Rangers.

That’s some Scotland starting XI tonight … Ralston and Hanley … no KT … and a midfield of 5 centre mids, one of which is Kenny McLean. Aye, OK.

We’re not flush with cash, any we do have should go towards players that improve us. Selling Dessers and Danilo could hopefully bring most of the funds for someone like Cerny. Then bring in another forward to compete with Igamane.

The games we’ve struggled in is away from home on smaller pitches or against a deep block where there is no space behind. Good link up, finding space and getting goals against sides sitting in is exactly what we’ve missed. Cheap and homegrown.

Dessers has had two years, clear he isn’t good enough to lead the line for us in league. We should be selling while he has value. Danilo is never fit, and if we can get any money we need to punt. Need two forwards in if we can punt them.

Che Adams … the poor man’s Dessers.

Decent 45 though, to be fair, albeit a pretty soft pen. The amount of diving by these Greek pwicks is off the charts though. Ludicrous.

Konstantinos Karetsas. 17 year old Greek/Belgian. Looks like one to watch? Kuhn replacement?

If his middle name was Kevin he might fit in better at Ibrox.

Thank fook Porteous only came on with 5 mins left. Absolute liability.

Totally agree...harder games, and more chance of a playoff spot if you drop down into B

Totally disagree! The only way to get better is playing against the best.

Aside from that the crowd don't want to see us play Kazakhstan, Finland & Slovenia but do want to see us try our best against the top teams with the top players. That said I can't get too excited about internationals though some do.

Exactly that

FFS imagine hoping to get relegated and wanting to see us play the likes of Slovenia or any other mid level side with mostly players we don't know as opposed to seeing the best of the best come to Hampden

But if we get relegated we stand a better chance of qualifying.

Much rather qualify than play good teams.

You’re in a very deep hole if you think Dessers is good enough for Rangers, or that we can afford to have Dessers and Danilo as backup forwards.

I haven't said anything about Dessers or Danillo so your mind is racing again! FWIW, I think Dessers is better than Shankland.

You have to be coming at this from the assumption that the takeover is happening. How much that allows you to spend is another matter but again you have to imagine that some financial engineering will take place to take you forward. What is the point otherwise?

So, you won't be shopping on the Shankland shelf. In any case, you don't buy guys with no re-sale value as backup, only younger guys that are more prepared to wait their chance. That's partly how you got here in the first place and Igamane as one of the latter might help you trade out.

Anyway, enough, I'm steaming!

In Europe and against Celtic I’d far rather have Dessers than Shankland, against Scottish jobbers camped in their box I’d prefer to have Shankland.

Shankland we wouldn’t be buying, we’d be taking him on a free for a couple years on a low wage comparatively. If there is a takeover, they won’t be daft, our costs weren’t manageable. Nonsense to say that’s how we got here. We got here as Dessers and Danilo are backups who are two of our highest earners, on over 50k combined apparently, and most Rangers fans would rather Igamane starts. We need to spend to get someone good enough to rival Igamane. Shankland isn’t that forward obv, but he is an ideal backup. He’s the exact opposite of how we got here.
