"Lots of rumours", you say? From what I can find, the one source of such rumours is a Twitter account called @unitedsc0ut, which states:
'Understand in recent months, there has been discussions on sending Mason Mount to a private clinic in 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 regarding his reoccurrence of injuries.
#MUFC feel this is a valid option as in theory it would prevent or limit the amount of injuries. ✔️
If this option was chosen, he would be out for around 6 months. ⏳
Although they’d expect that if this was the case he would then be a lot less injury prone. 👀
Keep an eye on this if injuries continue'
My first thoughts on seeing this tweet would be:
1. Scepticism about something coming from one of the hundreds of United-branded self-proclaimed in-the-know social accounts.
2. Scepticism about the content of the story. Sent to a specialist to sort his injury woes out? Out for six months? If the plan is some broad investigation into his injury-proneness, there wouldn't be an estimated timescale. If he's having an operation that would require six months of rehabilitation, then wouldn't an ITK reporter just say that?
I believe that social media account in particular has had some good info in the past unfortunately RR.
I seem to recall them breaking 1 or 2 injury stories last season before the media got wind of them as well.
Would be incredibly annoying if it's true though as it would mean he wouldn't get a pre season which to me would be a death sentence on next season too.
Let's hope it's not true and he can overcome these constant issues without going there but I'm incredibly doubtful he can.

Another terrible one for sure but at least Antony actually was available to be picked. His form at Betis might mean we get a taker for him this summer as well.
Nobody is taking Mason Mount from us. He's damaged goods.

Antony at least delivered here and there. Price tag you can't control too much. He was touted as a player worth circa 25m. We went and paid close to 90.
Mount is definitely close to worst signing territory if not already there.
I was amused to see a rumour today that Arsenal are interested in Antony
It might be true. Amorim is a big fan of Mount who can adapt to many positions in his system and sees him an integreral part of his team building project in the summer. Yes under normal circumstances most clubs would be looking to offload a player with Mount's pathetic track record so far, but because of Amorim's backing for the player plus because he's on silly money, the Club wont want to take the hit of selling him cheaply just to get him off the wage bill. So United could be looking for alternative ways to finally get him fit for next season and to raise his value. And Switzerland sounds as good as place as anywhere else to do this. So he wont be sold this summer whatever happens and we will see also him again in a United shirt when hes back.
I do have to state there was a time I completely discounted Antony. These performances he is putting out can’t be just put down simply to this league is more physical.
Arsenal it has been reported may be interested. I can see him easily doing alright there.
I think most current United players would probably look half decent at other clubs
RBW, regardless of how he's rated by the club as a footballer, surely of all our squad, Mount is the most impossible to sell, because no one is going to gamble the kind of wages he would need to agree to a move with his fitness record. So whether we want him to be an integral part of the future squad or we want to sell him, the onus has to be on sorting out his fitness.
In that context, I don't doubt the notion that the club would be willing to accept him being out of action for an extended period in order to sort out his long-term availability. But I do find this specific report pretty dubious.
So far I think Mount probably has been our worst ever signing pound for pound. I hope he can turn it around but I'm not confident.
I'm actually fearing for us the summer....
Imagine if Sancho goes back to Dortmund on loan after Chelsea pull the plug on their deal, Antony stays on loan at Betis and nobody comes in for Rashford with a perm fee either.
You can definitely see it happening too unfortunately. We have absolutely no leverage or power with any of those deals as clubs know we don't want to keep any of them as long as Ruben is our manager.
Obviously this is worst case scenario but it would be an absolute disaster for us financially.

If injuries continue? Like that's not a given
As I said above this social media account unfortunately got some inside info on a few club injuries last season before likes of Ornstein and other journos.
I'm sure this is something they are seriously looking at because I think we all know he's going to breakdown again within next few weeks.
SE85 that's a worst case scenario. Best case scenario is that all three move on. Reality might be in the middle. They are complicated deals to do because of the wages tied up in their contracts. But we know that all three players are keen to move, so there could be some flexibility on the part of the players. Meanwhile, Antony's value must look much better thanks to his form at Betis. Rashford is demonstrating some of his quality. Sancho is regularly getting picked to start at Chelsea. All look like better prospects for sale than when they were registered at United. Aside from that, we'll have some salary freed up by Eriksen, Lindelof and Evans leaving. Worst case scenario, we'll have some money to improve the squad.

Never a good starting point when you've got 3 well paid players out on loan when the first team is in total disarray in 13th place.
Unless Chelsea pay up for Sancho i think that's got Dortmund loan written all over it again.
Antony is going to do everything he can to stay at Betis surely. They can't afford him. Again a loan with maybe a slightly higher loan fee will be our lot.
Rashford is the only one we might get a perm fee for....maybe. Does he even want to join Villa though permanently? His interview for them when he joined didn't see like he did.
Rashford will go, for sure. We want the wages off our books and loads of clubs will come in for him.
It’s just a question of where he wants to go and how much we can manage to squeeze out of any deal.
I’ll be very, very surprised if Sancho doesn’t leave on a permanent deal, too.
He may well break down again, I hope he doesn’t as I’m an optimist 👍
Obviously we're in a position of weakness. But you're latching on to the worst case scenario proceeding from that.
- Why assume that Chelsea will exercise the escape clause for Sancho? They are playing him regularly and will get to buy him at below market value, and presumably will be paying him way less than we were if they keep him. They are all about player trading now, so they may see that as an opportunity to make a profit on him in 12 months.
- Antony: yeah, it's challenging selling him to Betis. There may be other suitors who can afford £30m or so, and maybe Antony is desperate enough to play that he's ready to compromise on salary.
- Rashford: unlike you, I don't see his transfer as an easier deal to do than the other two, as his wages are massive and he seems to be keen on going to a prestige club rather than just getting to some place where he'll play regularly, which narrows down the options. And while he's showing some hunger and sharpness, he's not having the kind of Q1 2023 purple patch that would have Barcelona etc knocking at the door.
At a guess I'd say each deal is 40%-60% likely to happen, which means we'll be lucky if they all happen and unlucky if none of them do. If we sell them all, it will help us reconfigure our squad this summer, but we'll still be operating under significant restrictions. If we sell none of them, those restrictions will be severe but we will be able to reshape the squad a bit. By the way, wouldn't be surprised to see us also raise money by cashing in on players who do have market value because they are young and on low wages (e.g. Zirkzee) in order to improve the suitability of the squad.
All in all, together with a proper pre-season and some help from Carrington, we should be positioned even in the worst case scenario to grow into a better team in 2025-26.
Why assume that Chelsea will exercise the escape clause for Sancho?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A) There are a lot of rumours they will be sending him back and paying the 'escape clause' fee.
B) He's been absolutely crap
C) This is how it turns out for us usually.
If we are going to send him to a private clinic in Switzerland, probably best to send him to Dignitas.
That way, his injuries are never a problem any more, and United get to claim on the insurance.
A) Twice in one thread you are going on 'a lot of rumours' when the sources are anonymous Twitter account, while actual journalists have done no more than confirm the escape clause exists.
B) He's been selected by Maresca when there are other options available, so it's clearly not a matter of consensus within Chelsea that he's been 'absolutely crap'.
C) Has it ever happened before that an escape clause in a loan-with-obligation-to-buy deal has been activated for a United player? This *always* happens to us? Really?
I don't disagree that it can't happen. I don't claim we're not in a very difficult position. I just think you're being a bit "WE'RE DOOOOOOOOOMED" about it.
RR
Rashford may not quite be tearing it up at Villa, but he has a goal/assist around every 90 mins or so in all comps I think.
I expect there’ll be enough choice for him in the summer.
Hope so, Rosso. For his sake as well as United's.
BTW on the subject of our academy players finding a good home elsewhere, there's a lovely interview in the Athletic with McTominay about how happy he is in Naples. Learning the language, amazed by the fact that tomatoes have flavour, great rapport with the fans, and being deployed in a way that makes the most of his strengths. Really glad for him.
