Scott Mctominay > Our entire attack

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

When you look at our attacking players it’s depressing. Not a single top player amongst them. Really is poor.

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

He’s neither a CDM or a ten but can do both jobs if needed. He’s a box to box player with loads of energy and an eye for goal. Said I was surprised he was sold at the time as he was one of your better players.

It gets to a stage it is high time we accept this is a graveyard for footballers. You blamed pogba. Blamed Lingard. Blamed mctominay. Blame blame blame.

Look at where we are.

What a sorry performance that was today. We are abysmal.

I like McT, big hearted trier, every team needs one of them.
I dont watch Utd enough but as a casual observation, seeing how far youve fallen from Fergies era, and happy to be told otherwise, don't you think what's missing is a core of proper, English/British players that have th extra percentage of knowing what Utd are all about? Maybe it's just the modern era and I'm a nostalgic dinosaur.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of the time the game used to pass him by, there were times where you wouldn’t even know he was on the pitch, good to see he’s making the most of his talent but truth be told he was a very limited player in his time at United
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd say that's mostly because we didn't know what we had. Tried to turn him into a poor man's Carrick. He's actually a goalscorer and always was. We wasted him.

I'd rather have Mctominay than Mason Mount and Zirkzee combined.

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

I myself don’t rate mount, never have, but listening to Ruben, sounds like he does

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

Zirkzee is garbage. Does the odd flick or touch but is useless at scoring or assisting aka his job. Mount I don’t know the point of him. Mctominay saved us many times last season. Honestly this forward line is championship standard.

Mount has been terrible for us, when fit, which is rare. But there is a player there, not a game changer but he had his moment for Chelsea in the past. We need an awful lot more from him though if he’s to change opinions

Glad he’s doing well. Seems like a good lad. However even though he’s probably better than most of our current crop it still doesn’t mean he’s quite good enough.

I’m sure most of our attackers would look good in Serie A.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
More than good enough for us in his current position, he popped up with plenty of goals for us so the signs were there.

He’d walk into our team right now, and he’d be good enough for our squad for years to come make no mistake.

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

He joined an already functioning team who had a clear plan for how to use him in a well balanced midfield, something we've not had in a long time.

You have Lobotka as the deep-lying sitter, playmaker and tempo setter, Anguissa is athletic, physically strong and robust, good when it comes to defensive transition, he can play a bit too and then you have McTominay as the box crasher and goalscorer, the perfect role for him so it's not a huge surprise he's flourishing.

With Bruno dropping deep for last few months and Amad out injured...... Mctominay and Elanga behind Rashford as our number 9 could have been a viable option for us. 3 players who a lot of our fanbase disliked yet would all improve this current team.

I'm aware Rashford issue was a bit more complicated as he clearly had the ability to start for us but seemingly wanted to leave but point still stands.

We sell players who fans have had enough of and replace them with inferior players or players who just don't fit the club far too often.

Not sure on the financial side but from a pure footballing side it does seem like he was slightly misused and could do a job

Think he could be a very good signing for us tbh as long as we address the 9 and 1 or 2 other positions at same time.

I'd like another wingback, CM, GK and ST in addition to Cunha. We will be lucky to get half that I'm aware.

My point was Rashford is better than Cunha and we're about to spend 62.5 million on him.
If anyone says Cunha is better than Rashford, you can suck on deez nutz.

I'm a huge Rashford fan still. I stuck up for him more than most.

As a number 10 in Amorim's system I'd rather have Cunha. However I agree that overall he's a better player when his head is right.

Can't see him coming back now. On loan again would be my bet. Probably abroad though this time.

Right. So we have a player on loan that is better than another player we're about to drop 62.5 million pounds on because the better player doesn't fit into this chit 5 at the back system, but we can't fire Ruben because we'd have to pay Ruben 20 million pounds.

But we're happy to spend 25 million pounds on Dorgu, for this chit 5 at the back system, despite Dorgu being no good at any one thing because he's built for the wingback formation, and to be a wingback, you can't be a specialist at anything.

Logic.

How many seasons has Rashford performed better than Cunha's present level? Two out of eight? Three?

I've no idea how good Cunha could be at United but it's weird bringing into the argument a player who has been at a catastrophic level for the last two seasons for us and obviously doesn't want to play for our club anymore.

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

Most people on here wanted him to go. Shows how much they know about football.

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

As for the OP, I'd rather celebrate McT's fantastic season in itself than use it as another angle for self-pity. He's one of our own, a great professional and he's having an amazing time in a fabulous city and at a club where the system is perfect for him.

He might have been misprofiled at United but the bigger issue is that we played a system that didn't have a role that perfectly matched his skill set - and he wasn't good enough to build a new formation around him. In 4-2-3-1 he's not got the technicality to be a CDM or the creative 10. In Amorim's system he could play behind the striker but I don't think he's ideal. Box to box in a 4-3-3 is perfect for him.

I'm just making a point. This club makes awful decision after awful decision, even still, after making one of the most awful decisions I've ever seen and that was keeping Eth in a job at United.

I also didn't bring him up. SE85 did.

I truly believe that had Rashford been handled properly, then he could've been great for us.
It's not his fault that he was paid insane money when he didn't deserve it.
At the same time, after getting undeserved pay rises at such a young age, we had huge issues at the club, from the ownership all the down to coaches, playing staff, and everyone else.

United can't be an easy club to play for these days which is why so many people appear to be failing miserably. It's just awfully ran.

posted 1 week, 1 day ago

If the owners of the club don't give a sh!t, then why should anyone else?

You see it in the corporate world too. We're all human at the end of the day, despite these guys living in a different world to us, they're still susceptible to the same things us average people are.

If I was paid 300k a week in my early/mid 20s without doing much I'd not be giving two sheets about much either if the owner I am working for is running the business into the ground. I've already made it. Who cares? Not me.

I said if we sold him we needed to replace his goals. He has a better knack of getting into goal scoring positions than any of our "strikers".

I quite like Ugarte, works hard, never shys away, breaks up play well, a good honest pro
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True, just not all that good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do hate this though. He does the job he's meant to do in a team with a woeful mindset and poor form. Is he meant to be creating chances, making more runs, getting goals?

There are so many players who have duties they have not been able to maintain for years. If your job is to score goals? Facking score them. Tackle? Save shots? Let everyone do their jobs.

Hate players being criticized for doing their job mostly well while the others are not doing theirs.
