TBF I think the 'lazy, greedy, petulant child' element is probably a large part of it. Nothing wrong with accepting a lot of players in the modern day are completely out of touch spoilt pr-cks who couldn't give a sh-t about anyone else other than themselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying he isn't a priсk. But he will have qualified grown-ups around him, who should be capable of telling him what his realistic options are. It might be that the advice is he can maximise earnings by sitting in our reserves for a year, then moving on a free next summer: he's acting on that advice like a priсk. But it could be that the advice his earnings are more secure if he compromises and moves now, or that to some extent he wants to play football as well as earning money.
I reckon we'll loan him out to a European club who are EL (maybe lower CL) level where we will pay the vast majority of his wage because the loaning club can't afford anything close to his wage at United. He won't do anything special, maybe the odd standout game where some United fans will moan we didn't keep him, his contract will run out and then he'll have some mid level European clubs after him, none of which capable of offering him PL level wages and maybe a decent signing on fee. If that's what he wants then fair enough.

I thought the long contract loophole isn't a thing anymore and was also more for young players, Sancho is 25.
Looking at this I could see him being offered a wage between 100-150k p/w.
https://www.capology.com/club/chelsea/salaries/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That still puts him in the same wage bracket as Palmer and they’d then have to pay £25m for him.
I suspect that’s another obstacle, paying the transfer fee and wages that add up to quite a lot for a waaaank player over the age of 25 is what they are trying to avoid.
I think Sancho will be the most difficult player to shift. Rashford not far behind.

Depends on the players' priorities above all. We have this notion that Sancho just wants to get paid and stay up all night playing Fifa, whereas Rashford genuinely loves his football but went of track a bit. Maybe that's accurate. Maybe not.
Other factors are total wages due to the player before the end of their contract, and the gap between that number and their actual worth. In this instance, Sancho is less problematic, because he only has a year left on his United contract, which maybe gives more scope for compromise.
I think both would like to be playing football, preferably away from United but also don't want to give up their huge contract they have with us, it's pretty much that straight forward to me. That means loans as it satifies both their needs, it obviously sucks for us but that's our fault for giving out these stupid contracts.
Like you say Sancho's contract is up in a year so maybe there is more room to compromise, but I still don't see it.

That’s why I don’t think there is much in it with those two.
I think Rashford’s far more likely to take a wage cut to move than Sancho. Especially with the world cup coming up.
It's now obvious the real first step to our renewal is rearranging our ridiculous wage structure which at this rate will take everyone having to get to the end of their contracts. Awesome.

I don't think it's quite that straightforward. They can't be sure what will happen on loan over the next year. Get injured or fall out of favour with the manager and they may have very limited options in finding their next club, and that puts their future earnings at risk. A permanent move secures a few years of salary. Ultimately, it's likely that it depends on what offers come in: which clubs are offering what terms. E.g. Rashford is more likely to compromise on salary for Barcelona than Newcastle, and maybe will compromise further to get the permanent transfer than the loan.
This story has been in circulation on & off for a while now. Always looked like one of those 'no smoke without fire' stories and here we are... Where's the Saudi's when you really need them?

Are we going to sacrifice heavily on a transfer fee? It seems the only way to make it work. 10-20 million for Sancho, 20-30 million for Rashford?
Where's the Saudi's when you really need them?
-----------------------------------------------------------
They want familiar names to jog around the pitch, can print money, and are desperate to sign players in time for the Club World Cup.
He wants a big salary and to go home with lots of energy for late-night gaming.
Seems like a perfect match.

There will be a cut-off point where the transfer fee is so low that there's no benefit to selling.

There is no way Barca are paying for Rashford, they're broke and if they did manage to buy him they then have the hurdle of registering him, all that hassle for a squad player makes zero sense. If Rashford really wants a move to Barca (which I still don't think makes much sense) then it will only be as a loan. And if that loan happens then it isn't going to help Rashford much with getting into the Engand squad sitting on the bench most of the time.
Not sure they’d have a problem registering him.

Hmm but there is always a benefit to selling, unless it's a league financial requirement issue. Keeping a player who we do not want to pay at the highest wages possible Is no benefit. Something something sunk costs ...
Barca arent actually broke btw they just cant meet La Liga rules. If there were no rules they would probably be fine
I’m not sure how hard it will be for them to meet those rules this season given it’s historic stupid spending that was hamstringing them, and they just signed a mega kit deal with Nike.
I thought Barca were in trouble of failing FFP again and their recent sales of VIP seats were under scrutiny meaning that they will again have issues registering players this summer? Are they moving on any players in high wages this summer?
La Liga base it on projected budgets and Barca will be back at the Nou Camp and have increased revenues with that and their Nike deal, plus reduced amortisations and I think they’ve brought their wage bill down in recent years.
They’ll be able to spend the money to sign Rashford, whether they do is a different matter.
I thought there are delays on the return to the Camp Nou and more likely to be in 2026? Maybe they should play at the Sagrada Família when that’s ready.
I thought they were going back in September?

If there were no rules I'd be rich because I'd rob the nearest bank, and then the next bank, and then rob people's homes of all their jewellery, then jump into people's cars as they walk away to pay for fuel, then rob some more banks, then mug some people, people who are flashing big expensive watches around, e.g Rolex, and the likes.
Id then hack into the finance system at my company and give all of the companies salary to myself, making myself even richer than I am already am.
Id be facking minted if there were no rules.
