Along with a few others, a player I could watch all day with beautiful goals and sublime assists.
I seem to remember him having the top three goals in the goal of the month competition early on in the 97/98 season.
The goal against Argentina stands out, given the quality and occasion.
For Arsenal, possibly the I think league cup goal against Sunderland.

The goal against Argentina was magic - the fact it was a last minute quarter final WC winner adds to it.

Yeah the touch, the awareness to nip it past Ayala and then the finish.

Completely overrated striker who simply did not score enough goals. 87 league goals in 315 is bang average. The likes of Jamie Vardy have achieved much more playing for smaller teams

He wasn't a striker at Arsenal. Ian Wright, Nicolas Anelka and then Thierry Henry were.

what was he then? Of course he was a striker, a deep lying one

You rate Wiltord and Kanu as better strikers than Ian Wright. You weren't even around for most of Bergkamps, you started supporting in May 2004

Bergkamp, wonderful footballer and magic to watch.
What I will say though, Cantona would have scored ‘that’ penalty 😉

Can't really tell if this is a wum or not, as already mentioned he was not CF he was a 10. He was a joy to watch, so graceful. For me he's second best player to pull on the red shirt in my lifetime after Henry.

In my memories Bergkamp was always a pair with his fellow Dutchman Overmars at Arsenal and one of the reasons I became an Arsenal fan and started watching English football regularly. But there's actually a 2 year gap as Overmars only came over in 1997.
Aside of his importance football wise I also believe signing Bergkamp did wonders for starting / expanding Arsenals overseas fanbase: he was super popular in the Netherlands but especially in South East Asia where they typically worship flair players and superstars in general. Player starpower ranked was Brazil/Italy > NL/Ger > ARG (basically Maradona only)/France (pre 1998). And way lower on the list you had Spain/ENG who were the perennial underdogs you rooted for if you were ITK...

It's a popular old fashioned troll on social media but he was a David Dein signing and would have been a Wenger signing if Arsene wasn't so adamant about upholding his contract with Grampus 8

I am honest. I thought also DB was a Wenger signing.
I learnt from the Arsenal thread that he wasnt.
Anyway DB was great and I keep him in good memories for successful years at Arsenal.
