Sorry. Just seen this is discussed on the grrrrrrrrrr post below.

Don't think we were ever in for him.

We'll make some good signings but i expect most to come out of the blue.

Don't think there's much doubt we were in for him. We made an offer. The rumours we bid again at a higher price were dismissed by both clubs but the first offer was genuine.

We obviously had our valuation and stuck it. Sunderland valued him higher and the selling club only accepted the higher offer for obvious reasons.

We will have to find out who's valuation was correct over next season. Not just about valuation of a single players but the strategy for building the entire squad.

Obviously disappointing as he was a player we wanted and has some very good reviews. If Sunderland hadn't gone in way above our valuation we may have got him. But club is right to not get caught up in a bidding war that may we miss out on other targets and have holes in the squad.

It's clear that the club have several options for each position and a proper plan in place.

Hopefully it's the right one.

Got to give credit to Sunderland too, they are showing plenty of ambition.

While Burnley extend the contract of Barnes. Who I have just realised is a few months younger than me! What a start to the weekend for me. He's a hard life.

Sunderland and Burnley showing ambition.
Which will make finishing 17th or higher even
tougher. I like Bijol. But we better have our
ducks in a row on incomings and quickly.

And we absolutely wanted Diarra. Looks a talent.
We can't be losing out to Sunderland on our main targets FFS.

Most of Burnley's signings are sizeable expenses on players they had last season, who they will probably need to sign players on top of anyway.

Not sure how that is ambition.

How are Burnley showing ambition? Bit of an odd comment when they are selling their best player.

We ideally need a LB, CM, AM, GK and Striker. 30m would have dented the transfer budget significantly. I can understand why we didn't go for it.

How high would you have let Sunderland push our offer then? Given the statement above? Because it sounds like whatever the price you pay it, because we can't lose out to Sunderland.

Pair this negotiating tactic with the same expertise that said we needed 5-10 new signings last January and we will be in League 1 by 2027.

Who said we absolutely wanted him?

Any official source?

Time will tell if its a deal we missed out on, seemed quite expensive for someone who's not played in England.

Douglas Luiz is the main link now

posted on 28/6/25

Bit quiet on hearing anything at the moment last I heard was Muniz and the goalkeeper links which I posted about 6 weeks ago, so we have been active for a while now, I would imagine most of the players we are linked with in the press are rumours and nothing else, when I hear something will let you know

Think it's quite clear we bid for him.

Saw a denial from the club through local journalists that they had improved the bid when this rumoured this week.

And contrast with the rumours that we have submitted a bid for Krstovic at Lecee, the YEP have been in contact with the club who have stated clearly that they have not made a bid for this player.

Just like the Bijol news, the muniz news, I would say that the Diarra news was genuine.

It's a case of assessing the sources making a judgement on it's reliability.

If you are just going to dismiss every report that hasn't come from the club then the same would go for all the reports about Bijol for weeks that the club never confirmed either, and yet here he is. Why would the club make an official statement about interest in a player.

Yes I think Diarra would have been a class signing but not for £30 million although I know you stagger the payments over 3/5 years so £6/10 million a year doesn't sound that expensive but we'll see how he does at Sunderland with the pressure on his back as their record signing.

Anyway it's not to be and we'll look elsewhere and there's plenty out there in Noah Sadiki, McAtee, Onyedika, Uche, Longstaff,Luiz, Hamer and Buendia.

"Douglas Luiz formally joined Juventus in a €50m deal from Aston Villa a year ago, but has struggled with injuries and limited playing time in Turin, accumulating just 877 minutes on the pitch without contributing to any goals." Posted by Italian media.

Also says Juventus will be trying to get the amount back
they shelled on him. And needs to be done by June 30.

40 mill for a player who was injury plagued.

My point exactly.

Also since promotion I think we have been linked with at least 12 new strikers. Not sure I'm that excited about any of them listed below as they're either overpriced, injury prone or unproven like Guessand who looks great on YouTube but would he be able to be as great in the EPL is the big question???

Ferguson
Wilson
Muniz,
Vardy
Abraham
Sargent,
Beto,
Calvert Lewin,
Krstovic,
Vanat,
Geubbels,
Guessand.

I've not taken any notice of even the Yorkshire Evening Post for years now.

I gave up on that the summer Phil Hay kept saying we wouldn't be signing Saiz or Alioski & we signed both!! Most of the chatter is just nonsense.

Sargent

^^^

My biggest fear is Farke signs him and keeps Bamford.

On the opposite side of this, we haven't heard a thing regards outgoings. 49ers do keep a tight lid on things.

I assume once we hit midnight June 30, things change.

Maybe we were just bumping up the price for Sunderland to pay.
Sometimes it better to know when to back off.

Ouch! Yes, I know what you mean.

Also, regarding Douglas Luiz, again, not a bad age and has some good experience … but/and (depending on your proclivities😁) I hope his character is ‘sound’ i.e. he’ll fit in with the vibe Farke et al have been able to create at ER these past couple of seasons. No room for prima-donnas please👍.

Well, Sargent is rank but I'd like a proper gander at Geubbels
