Recall waking up Beeston Hill after the celebrations and thoughts moved very quickly only how do we manage the premier league. The suggestion we talked about the most was signing the tallest team we could and whether this would work. It was a bit of a laugh suggesting we started with Dan Burn and then that giant striker Onuacho from Southampton. Tomas Soucek was identified and someone even suggested bring Grot back.
I think conversation came up because we all agreed that we would get destroyed on set pieces in the premier league with the current side so it looks like the transfer people agree!

Listened to The Square Ball podcast with guest Phil Hay, and there was mention that the 49ers analysis of success v relegation in Premier League indicated that, among several issues highlighted, height was an important factor... seems they're acting on it

Not the prettiest or most innovative plan, but feels like one that could work. No guarantee but has to be better than no width and kick it forward plan of Marsch tenure.

I do think this suggests they are planning on a back 3 atm. Probably would need another CB on top of that though
Rodon Ampadu Struijk
Bijol Bournauw ???
----------------------------------------------------------------------
WIth Ampadu/Byram to cover as fifth choice they may decide it's fine.
Unless 3 at the back is every game but I would imagine we will still play 4 at the back when this is preferable, and use 3 at the back against the better sides.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think then you surely opt for a LCB as one of these two signings. Plan might be to sign a defensive LB that can slot into a three though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Given the announcement by Firpo suggesting we never offered him an option to stay, I doubt 3 at the back is the plan. Don't you think he would have been ideal as LWB and effectively free?
Suspect signing Bornauw is simply raising the floor of the squad and we now have 4 serious options cb. Bijol and Struijk can play either side if really required. Expect Struijk & Bijol to be the nominal first choice.

…..Apparently the plan is to create BigBastards FC.
Robbie Evans, Chief Strategist, sent all his analysts out to data assess survival and the findings were that you need to be able to physically compete to stay in the Premier League, meaning ‘big’ players were vital. 🤷♂️

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if he does go for that reason. But if he doesn’t I expect us to sign another centre back to be first choice on the left side rather than use the remainder.
Selling Struijk will likely be dependent on what happens with Meslier, Joseph & Harrison as they will also represent pretty much pure profit for PSR. It doesn’t look like Joseph is as likely to go now that clubs aren’t matching asking price so Struijk probably more likely.
I would like to see us be able to keep both but understand how the rules work. May be necessary this season to do as you say and sell Struijk and maximise the income on amortisation/wages spread over 5 years. If not managed correctly though that can commit us to selling another pure profit player for a similar fee each of the next 4 season just to pay for the players already committed to. May be deemed a necessary evil to survive this season and cross that bridge when we come to it though.

This is why the rules are bullsheet
They are but the whole premise of PSR gets a worse rep than it should. It could work a lot lot better and shouldn’t be scrapped.
Problem is the rules are very poorly written, leaving massive loopholes and unforeseen negative side effects such as selling academy players for inflated fees as part of dodgy swap deals. This is expected and rules were always going to need tweaking. Should have been better in the first place but were never going to nail it before tested in the real world. But the fact the clubs that want to break the rules are the ones that get to vote on fixing the problem, and a 2/3 majority is required to make a change means it’s impossible to fix. Stupid system.
Let the top 6 clubs spend big transfer fees too. Gives clubs like us a chance to rip them off. Need to kerb the wages because once it’s in a players pocket it’s out of the game forever. So far PSR has had no impact on wages whatsoever so ever.
