I line Watkins but I just don’t think he fits the profile United are after in terms of age and cost.

Never rated Watkins.
Would rather have rashford back tbh
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rashford has 14 more PL goals than Watkins in his career. He also has about 4 and half more PL seasons than Watkins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From the wing... Indeed. Watkins is a striker.
Plus rashford has had a load of bang average seasons whereas Watkins is apparently rated highly.. interesting?

Watkins didn't always play through the middle.
Watkins is the sort of player we need, whereas Rashford self-evidently isn't. If he's available at a fair price it's a bit of a no-brainer.
He's 30 in 5 months. He won't be available at a fair price. Probably 50+ million and we should steer well clear.
I just have a feeling that if rashford had more talented players around him, he'd get his hunger back again.
E.g. Cunha, Mbuemo, both Pl proven and great goals and assists record. Let weight on rashfords shoulders, less focus on him, less media attention (maybe).
I can't see us offloading rashy so it would probably be another loan move. Id keep him if it was me but I doubt Ruben would, he seems done with him.
Watkins is much better than Rashford playing as a striker, who’s always struggled playing there.
Yeah rash isn't a hold the ball up type of player, but Rubens tactics with 3 forwards or 10s, rash, Cunha, Mbuemo or Amad or whoever could potentially be a bit more fluid
If Rashford ended up staying, we'd be better off with him playing left 10 and Cunha as CF.
I don’t see it as more fluid give Watkins is better at running the channels and is often pulling out to the wings. Watkins isn’t really a hold the ball up type of player, he’s just much better at it than Rashford, which is why barely any managers have bothered playing Rashford as a striker on a regular basis.

Sancho
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s *whinger* not *winger*.
Sell Hojlund to Villa for £300m and buy Watkins for £300m, releasing over £150m of PSR headroom to go and get Isak.
Loan Watkins to Newcastle.
Watkins is a very good Prem CF. At £50m, Id take him ahead of Rashford, Hojlund, Ekitike, Sesko, maybe Gyokeres.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's good that you're not a professional football manager then isn't it
We apparently turned down Watkins to get Hojlund in the first place. What a mistake-a to make-a
He’s much much better than what we have but I’d still prefer Gyok and think a deal can be done
50 millions for Watkins is ridiculous though. Dudes 30 soon, and isn't even anywhere near one of the best players in the league. Isn't the sort of player to get you a goal out of absolutely nothing either.
We paid 23/24 million for RVP, who was the best striker in the league and 29 at the time.
That was seen as expensive at the time, due to RVPs age, but it was worth it because he was quite literally in the top 5 best players on the planet when he moved here.
We'd be absolutely mad to drop 50 on Watkins. It would be another aging player that we're stuck with, who'd we get maybe or two a year of decent ish play out of.
I think the fee for Watkins would be too high - I don't blame Villa for wanting a big fee. Paying a bit extra for the likes of Mbuemo is one thing, but I wouldn't want to do the same for Watkins.
However, I still believe that Gyokeres is the one that Amorim really wants.
Of course there has to be a potential list, and pretty much any striker available will appear on that, but Watkins doesn't seem to fit the profile we want
Haven’t seen anything saying we’re going to pay £50m for him tbf. Only that he’s ’a name we are considering’ among other targets.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah..this one hopefully
It seems Rashford will be returing back to United for pre season training.
What about Mr Freedom, is he going to be ok going back to pre season?
I'd imagine part of this is to try and put pressure on Brentford to agree to our terms for Mbeumo although they seem pretty chilled about the whole thing saying he'll stay if we don't offer what they want.
I suppose there reaches a point as to whether Brentford would risk losing him on a lower fee next season, assuming they trigger the 1 year extension. But that is versus how badly we want him.
For the sake of 2.5 million, which in the grand scheme of things isn't much, we would no doubt blink first and just pay it - sometimes you have to do that, and it's not a crazy amount unlike previous transfers we have done.
It seems like he's ours if we want to pay the going rate. Maybe in the meantime we look at other targets such as ST, CM and GK which IMO are all essential purchases this summer. Obviously these all depend on what we can sell but if Mbeumo is someone we can wait on (as he seems set on joinung us) then see what other targets we can get in the meantime.
I never get when you read that a club can only work on one deal at a time? It's not as if United and Brentford are in 24/7 talks?
I would have thought most clubs would be working on a number of deals and it's just a case of if / when they come to fruition - there can be a few variables due to other clubs being involved, but yeah, it would be ineffective to say that only one deal can be done at a time.
Other rumours of sending Onana out on loan. I now have a gut feeling that at best Rashy will go out on loan (if at all), speculation seems crazier than ever around us
