True, it was no big deal. You can only beat whats in front of you. Weve got some real winners coming up next, Newcastle, Munich and PSG. A proper test.
FIFA are basically gonna do whatever they want regardless

I think this is the real problem. Them and UEFA. Obviously the club world cup recently and adding games to the European competitions so they can have their super league has really exacerbated the problem.
I'd sooner cut an international break and have a proper winter break after Christmas than remove a cup competition
btw I'm not sympathizing with the players really. They get every benefit and provision possible. But realistically the football gets worse as they get tired. IMO you have a better product if the players aren't fighting exhaustion/carrying injuries

Top clubs - chance to blood youngsters, give squad players minutes
Rest of PL - chance of a run to the final as well as blooding youngsters and squad players.
Lower leagues - chance for a money spinning tie against a PL club.
Fans of many PL clubs - a chance for many who don't normally get the opportunity to see their team for a cheap price.
There could be some improvements to it but don't think it should be got rid of.

Fair comment
Would retain it personally for many of the reasons given above, up to each club how seriously they take it but for me always an opportunity to give youth and those fringe players game time, which i think is invaluable.
They sorted the fixture congestion and then just built it up again with the stupid new CL format.
I susie t the same would happen again if you binned off the LC and/or the Nations League.
By sorting I mean binning replays in the FA Cup
The Nations League is annoying but it hasn't added any games AFAIK
Just have it so teams who aren't in Europe that season don't enter. Would mean that the conference league place will go to a team who didn't play in Europe that season which gives then a pathway in.

As soon as the national associations do something about congestion on their side Uefa and Fifa see it as an opportunity for more games in their competitions
Binning replays was some good common sense planning tbf
Definitely scrap it. completely worthless
In 98/99, i believe the treble winning United side played 59 games in total. The treble winning City side played 61 games I think. Not much difference for clubs in the last 25 years is it?
Interested to hear statistics for how many games were available for players to play in those seasons including internationals.
Clubs dont help themselves by chasing £££ with post season tours, or scheduling friendlies in winter breaks.
It doesn’t matter what competitions exist, they’ll fill the calendar as much as possible to make more money.
And the players’ agents will lap it up when they negotiate a new contract, which rather negates the complaints from various people about the pressure on players this congestion creates.

We just played a 64 game season - the issue is because we made the CWC final we havent started pre season yet
Factor in for the top players there is now a 3rd summer comp they could be involved in theres only one normal summer every 4 years if your intl team and club team qualify for everything
This is so skewed for the teams at the top tier of the game. Many smaller clubs going on a cup run, whether it be this or the FA Cup, are we just going to get rid of all that? It's so tough to pick up a trophy these days, it seems crazy to get rid or another chance to do so
yes fixture congestion mainly affects the top players who will likely play every intl fixture and run deep in all comps
Maybe they should say that a player can only play a certain number of games a season, and so have to rest him occasionally because of that. May seem a bit extreme / leftfield, but means you need to use your squad as best you can and might not affect lower teams who don't play as many games.
That does get tricky, does the player have a cap that affects both the intl team and the club?
Big clubs have really big squads though these days, so just rotate...
I think every club should have a 100 players, so they can cope with the Caribou.
Oh I forgot Chelsea already do.
It's a real cup unlike that thing that just happened in the states.
Make more sense to cancel second and third ranked European comps. Nothing worth watching there.
