Any suggestions on a player who could cover across the front line?

Could be one to watch out for on deadline day

Can't quite understand why we gave Trossy a payrise? It felt like we wanted to offload him and he wasnt opposed to this. How does that end up in a payrise on the same length deal?!

I don't think we ever wanted to offload him, tbh. There were contract offers throughout and by all accounts we valued him as such to put off any potential suitors.
There are probably parts to the contract that make the deal worthwhile to all parties.

Massive annoying blow just when we finally had some cover and competition.

Hopefully it;s a 3 month injury and not a 6 month + ACL

Trossard has earned his extension. He hit the ground running when we signed him 2.5 seasons ago, and his output has been well worth the money we have spent on his transfer fee and wages.

Arguably outperforming the likes of Martinelli and our revolving door of attacking signings who haven't amounted to much.

Most importantly, he has stayed largely fit and injury-free. With 46 and 56 appearances across all comps in each of his last two full seasons at the club.

As far as any last-minute activity in the transfer market is concerned : - I wouldn't trust either one of Calafiori or Timber to stay fit for 5 games between the two of them.

Two top class defenders, by any metric. But I still have questions. Especially when our backup is an equally fragile Ben White, and a raw but talented MLS.

I wouldn't be too quick to ship Kiwior out either. Keep him on at least until January. Gabi Magalhaes (like Havertz) has only just come back from a lengthy layoff, and a bit of insurance at the back would be nice.

Mosquera might look decent on paper, but he's still an unknown quantity in the EPL at this point.

Fear this injury could be a big loss for us, still felt like he had a big role to play. Hopefully not too serious but even more pressure on Gyokeres hitting the ground running now

Keep in mind, it was Trossard who was delaying signing the new deal.

What the deal does is take the option for a one-year extension and converts the whole contract to two seasons. Trossard will be 32 when it finishes.

This is not a good deal for Trossard as he wanted 3 years. But it is obvious there weren't any takers.

It might be the first of a number of one-year extensions. Like Jorginho.

Another way of stopping Isak move to Liverpool is to buy Wissa.

However, players like Rodrygo/Isak etc. rarely come on the market so it should an incentive to Arsenal to spend big. I am sure with the lack of strikers on the market, we will be able to shift Jesus's wages after he recovers.

It's not perfect. But it also doesn't sound too bad for either party.

It keeps an aging player motivated. And it allows the club the luxury of kicking the can down the road by postponing any expensive outlay on a direct replacement.

I did mention on the other thread that I hope it means we will be more confident in replacing Martinelli with a player from outside the league considering Trossard allows a settling in period.

I'd like to believe that there's still a long-term future for Martinelli at the club. But not necessarily as a regular starter.

I know he makes you want to pull your hair out at times. But he also has plenty of redeeming features.

His particular brand of "off the ball" menace would make for a brilliant impact sub.

To soften up a stubborn opposition back line in the second half. Or to shore up our defensive shape when hanging on to a lead.

I rather not devalue him like that. Martinelli is 24, around the Brazil team and still has a very good reputation. Looking at market values this summer, I think he is worth between £60m-£70m.

I’d consider ‘Nelli as a back up #9 & sign a LW

Nah not after the last 2 season. £50M is good for him

Hopefully not a serious injury but I look on it a different way. It may take a bit of pressure off Gyokores in that he knows he's the man totally in posession of the starting spot and he doesn't have to look over his shoulder with Havertz sitting there waiting for him to fail. Very simple now he has to succeed with our record I don't see us getting anyone even if they injury is serious.

posted on 20/8/25

Some so-called insiders on Twitter are suggesting Havertz does not have an ACL. So if it is a sprain would put him for 2-3 months at most?

Gyokeres needs to start scoring quickly. Because that's still a big chunk of the season without much of a backup (Merino). Our left side is not firing, and most teams know to take Saka out of the game by double or triple marking him.
