In fairness I think the majority of United fans have taken our fall from grace with good humour. There are some on social media that are hysterical of course but they're a minority.

Maybe it's my age but I remember a time when we were crap and Liverpool were winning everything so it's not a new experience. Football goes in cycles though and I'm sure we'll get it right one day again.

Football is cyclical diafol, I done the full 30 year stint between titles
United will come again (hopefully not for another good while) but they will eventually

Yes. I also believe there's some unwritten law that Manchester United and Liverpool just can't be good at the same time.

Of course we are. Imagine being a player and seeing the stuff being written about them on a daily bases. Add the constant doom the media portray (because it sells) and you're left with a miserable shell of a club with players terrified to do anything 'wrong'.

I think there is also a very poor negative culture within the club that has manifested over years and isn't going to easily disapear. I guess a lot of that stems from the Glazers and the way they've run the club into the ground without a care in the world. I do think that moving forward we will at some point need to get rid of them, they're basically a cancer slowly destroying us creating a stink.

But this is why we need to be patient and take baby steps. Yes it's been poor but it's been 3 games, the overraction from some fans is insane!

I know my post about Sesko was reactionary but he just looks so wooden and laboured. Compare him to Ekitite and it’s already chalk and cheese.

I get your point but this was his first start and he won't really be expected to perform the same kind of role as Ekitike. Sesko, even though he's younger, has also scored more goals.

Imagine dropping Ekitike into a United attack with the weight of desperation to turn around years of failure on his shoulders. And imagine putting Sesko into Liverpool's well oiled attack, which won the league without a dominant centre forward last season and where he's not even the highest profile attacker added to the elite forward line this summer. In this thought experiment, which player would you envisage looking more relaxed on his debut?

Definitely. Add to this that aside from what we think about the decisions Ineos has made in recruitment, the ruthless cutbacks to staff badly hit morale across the whole organisation. This included plenty of player-facing staff (physios, coaches) and journalists with access to the squad have stated they were affected by seeing people they had strong relationships with getting scrapped. It's hard to quantify whether the impact of that cultural hit exceeded in financial terms the cash savings that were achieved, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Surely the Glazers have got to think about selling soon? They've milked us for everything and don't take any dividends right, so if they want money the only way is to sell?

posted 3 weeks, 2 days ago

Fans are fickle. Few wins in a row and the mood will be better.
Is Ruben gets very little points in the next few fixtures which is very likely, I think most fans will be turning on him.

Greed is a powerful drug. If they got attached to the idea of a certain valuation, selling at market price will feel like losing billions of dollars.

Not may sell at the bottom.

United can pretty much only go up from where they are now!

I'm loathed to say it but this is where Liverpool fans excel. Even at their lowest ebb back in the 90's and early 00's and even for periods where they underperformed in the league later on, they railed against anything from pundits and football writers who tried to put the club down even if it meant at times sounding delusional but they didn't care. I'd say Chelsea fans are similar in that way.

------------------------------------------------------------

Interesting point. I wonder if Liverpool and Chelsea benefit from the fact that their slumps have occurred when the internet was slightly younger and more innocent, which is to say, not quite as close to the end of civilisation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To perhaps provide a slightly different angle on that the supporters at the ground give United and the manager(s) nothing but support.

The internet is what it is and I wonder if it's the case of the minority shouting loudest and bad faith actors (like Goldbridge etc) making capital out of our failures. Us doing well doesn't get half as many clicks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a good point. United support never stops supporting the team, at OT and away, no matter what the deal is and how hopeless things seem, because this what we do and thus is what we want the world to see, think and hear. We do it but still some/many dont believe... but we still do it to keep the red flag flying high.

Yes, there is definitely a defiance to our support which is great to see.

RBW, Diafol

Fully agree about the in-person support, and my OP is 100% about the toxicity of the online environment.

(This isn't a dig at anyone specific, but it's ironic when you come across a match-going fan who is among the most toxic / pessimistic of us when they go online.)

posted 3 weeks, 2 days ago

Im not pessimistic or toxic. I know football and United very well I I call it for what it is when I see it. Last night was a new low since relegation for United and all concerned at the club should be able to say that without being called out for been passionate about that.

I think pound for pound Utd are the worst club in the country. That is some achievement.

posted 3 weeks, 2 days ago

The media are just as guilty of toxicity as fans on the Internet.

Take Sesko. He's getting a ton of stick for taking the 10th penalty in the media and I don't get it because:

A. He scored and
B. Everyone in front of him scored except Cumha and, when they went round again, Mbeumo - two players that most would've picked ahead of Sesko anyway.

But he's being labelled a coward in the media after just 1 start.

Even if they are right, its the least of man utd's problems. Yet the media and pundits want to make a big deal out of it to tear him down without giving him a chance

...you mean the post where I addressed you and Diafol because I was agreeing with the point you made. I then went on a tangent, because there are match-going fans you meet online who consistently slate the players, and I find it paradoxical that this happens because the in-stadium support isn't like that. I find that interesting, because it maybe hints at something about what internet culture does to people. Anyway, as I said, I wasn't talking about specific posters, and I certainly wasn't referring to you, who I wouldn't at all describe as toxic.
