Not that it matters a jot but it surprised me too that there hadn't been one before.

Why is it urprising and why does it matter?

I dont know, or care to know about the religious beliefs of footballers.

Nice try.

This is just the BBC trying to make something out of nothing. It's a boring international friendly that NOBODY is really interested in so they're trying to stir up 'interest' by any means possible.

They’re world cup qualifiers.

Against teams ranked 174 & 32 in the world, they might as well be friendlies.

You could have just admitted you were wrong.

32 teams used make the world cup, so a team ranked 32nd in the world are WORLD CUP standard. However, it has now been expanded to 48 teams, so a team 32nd in the world would be expected to make the knockouts. Therefore this is actually more like an actual WORLD CUP KNOCK OUT GAME rather than just a qualifier, NEVERMIND a friendly. This is HUGE.

This is the most WRONG I have EVER seen a person be.

Back to the OP, I don’t care about a player’s religion but from the players perspective and his families perspective I’m sure they will be very proud.

Good on him, Ed Spence is also the first DJ to play for England
