I say...SELL!!!
Ramires is a capable of doing Essien's job.

Was in the Daily Mail that we will demand 38M for him.

But anyway for 18M, i'm not sure. I suppose you would have to look at, especially in todays market, if we were going to buy a DIRECT replacement for him, could we get anyone as good as him for 18M?

By direct replacement i don't mean Ramires etc, think he would be wasted as DM as he would probably be restricted on surgeing forward, which is one of his main attributes.

McEachran won't be used as a DM, he might be played there, but his job won't be to defend, and in the bigger games against a more physical side, i think McEachran could be used as a central mid.

So for 18M, i don't think we should take that, if anyone like Real did offer 38M then yes i'd certainly take that. Minimum i would want is about 23-25M for him.

United fan in peace,
It would be foolish to accept 18M for a player like Essein, one of the world's best DMs

Another United fan.

If i was offered Essien for 18m i'd take your hand off!

Really? He hasn't had that good a season any it seems half our fans want him sold, personally im not sure

Almost every person I know thinks he had a good season, If Ghana had won the world cup in SA, I'm sure we would say best MF in the world. Only liverpool fans have negative words, Essien show them birds!

Well I'm not part of that half that wants him sold,he deserves to stay offers alot for us in midfield, yes i know he had a poor season last season but we all know what he can do when he is on top top form.

Still only 28,It's not asif he's in his mid 30's/late 30's although people do question his age sometimes bit like Kanu.

Just for the record I happen to think that Kanu lied about his age.

essien didn't kick a ball in SA mate, still think he's a great dm, i just don't think he had the legs this season to burst from box 2 box like he used to. i still think he deserves one more season to prove critics wrong...life in the old dog yet!

Sell

Sorry, but he is the one who slows down the play time after time and we then lose momentum. This was the main failing this season imo.

Sell,100%

Wth? Forget about no longer being the same player, he's still our best player to play DM!

I think Mikels much better but Essien is a good backup

posted on 13/6/11

I would have Essien over Mikel anyday.

posted on 13/6/11

Mikels had a better season and IMO has been our best player in around 5-7 games this season. In Essiens games he's probably only had one, right at the start of season where he scored 2 against WestHam. Right now Mikel is the better player by far

ur probably right, we shouldn't compare him to the player he was, still arguably the best dm in the league, but he is only 28 lets not talk like he's dead! lampard hasn't shone this season and no-one is saying he's finished!

out of curiosity how much would u take for lamps?

Lampard can't ßë sold because he's an iconic figure @ the club, same way Giggs, Scholes and Neville were to Mutd.
Essien should ßë sold, he will no longer rediscover is form, because of the fact that age has caught up with him.
He claims to ßë 28, but I can bet he's more than that. Most African players falsify their ages, there was even rumour of him not being his actual age, some years ago in Ghana.
Essien should ßë in his early thirties or so...he can forge his age, but he can't cheat nature!

posted on 13/6/11

he hasn't forged his age, he's 28. Owen has had lots of injuries and started decreasing in level at a relatively young age but no-one accuses him of age-cheating

posted on 13/6/11

These age accusations are ridiculous. Why not any other black player?

Essien is world class. Rotate with Mikel? Are you high?

Mikel will leave hopefully, he is awful.

And Essien is still the best at what he does, despite one season below his unbelievably high standards.

At 28 he is in his prime, he will get back to form soon enough.

If he wants to leave then... £35m minimum.
