To be honest I can't re-call Gelling's indiscretion and besides that I haven't heard of him until now, so I can understand why an NRL club didn't pick him up if he hasn't got that much to offer as to of not even made much of an impression on the league press as a good player.

As for the S/League being a retirement home for NRL players......I doubt it, not now days, there was a time when a player who was on his way out whether it be injuries or age would try to make a last minute buck out of the English league but not now with the S/League being every bit as tough on the field and training as the NRL is...if he did he would soon be caught out and word would quickly get around that he is just a bludger...

Gelling was sacked along with Sam Brunton for the same offence that Nate Myles was suspended and heavily fined the previous year.
But according to the Sydney Morning Herald and reports from hotel staff at the time what they did was far worse.
Like you say there does'nt seem to be much history of how good Gelling is as a player,though Brunton had 3 games in the NRL before the incedent.

Re; Brunton, I can't say he left an impression with me then.....then again the Roosters were going through a few players in order to prevent the wooden spoon

Super League need not be the dumping grounds for the NRL bad boys. All that needs to happen is that the Super League clubs say no, but they won't do that.
