If Houllier was still here, we'd be going forwards again, playing proper football and bringing on the youth. Yes, Houllier made mistakes, but look at the mess when he arrived; the second half of the season ended up pretty good.
Would Houllier have put on anything like as bad as Eck did last night? No way. There would have been a strategy to compete with Spurs, not a cowardly retreat. Harry would probably have still won, but it would have been an entertaining two-sided match, not a walk over.
Villa have gone backwards in the sense that we've lost good players, but that happens and can be rectified in one way or another. It's the manager who's critical; that's where we've really shot backwards. The situation is recoverable, but not with Eck there.
Is McLeish -at 20/1 with Paddy Power, a good bet for the next premiership manager to be shown the door? Great odds, but I somehow can't see RL changing things before the NEw Year - when it might be too late.
