You seriously underate Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson and Park. Adam, although not my first choice either, would fit in well, and that's important. Show some faith and appreciation towards the players that have won 4/5 PL's and got to 3 CL finals in 4 years. I also believe that Cleverley will make it and be a decent squad player, if not a starter.
And top four will be us, Chelsea, Man City and either Arsenal or Liverpool.

Our cm options are poor.
Fletcher was garbage last year. Plus his footballing ability is average. He is a good destroyer not a lot else.
Park good engine, not a lot else.
Carrick, good but not better than good. We need someone to stomp authority on the midfeild.
And anderson keeps getting injured, not getting a run of games and then getting injured when he does. I think he has potential but he has never shown it concsitantly, one good game, one bad etc.

I see your concerns but replacing Scholes isn't done by signing whatever big names are around when he goes. It's about growing and evolving into a new Manchester United. Think Beckham to Ronaldo. Yes I'm also worried that right now, our midfield is weak, but honestly, how long can it stay so when the best midfielder of the last twenty years is coaching our CM's.
I fully expect Anderson to step up. Park to play a proper CM role now. Cleverley to improve and Carrick and Fletcher to put in top performances as the old pros in this new United midfield. Players will be bought and holes plugged. Scholes decision to stop playing and start coaching will pay off very handsomely for us.
Btw, I think we can survive without cm's being bought in. In the league easily top 3 with what we have.

When we beat them last time we had a midfeild of ronaldo, hargo, scholes etc. This midfeild is not as good as that.
We do need THAT midfielder to make things tick better. I guess the easy thing to do is try to steal a big signing. Its no guarentee of success.
The tried and tested midfield we have are gud enough to compete and win games, as well as trophies.
But for that extra step in the CL we defo need that extra quailty if we are to dismatle the likes of Barca and real.
