I actually believe the RL code is a disgrace to sport and sports people.

Oh the Irony no fake blood in Rugby League

I barely watch union, unless its internationals, but I always got the impression from the constant moaning of one of the commentators (the baldy one), that players rarely put the ball in straight in Union scrums, so why you're moaning about that aspect of league is slightly bemusing...

I tried to watch Union once, I fell asleep. Go home you bed rattler.

I had a laugh at the unions expense a couple of years ago when stats were released to which sport had value for money in terms of the ball in action compared to those that have stoppages....etc.

It actually surprised me that rugby league was in front of football albeit only slightly then there was a huge gap to American gridiron followed by union last or least ball time in action..........fancy gridiron having more ball time in play then anyone else.........it's no wonder the union lads get excited when they kick it out all the time.......at least they are seeing the ball in action.

Martin Gleeson granted leave for stress. Too much hanging around at scrums, possibly ?

League popular ?? haha, Quins......

Surely e-mc2 you should concern yourself more with your games relience on overseas players. your national coach has just picked a 45 man squad for your world cup of which 1/3 were born overseas. Isn't your sport capable of producing English born players in any number?

"Each and every scrum breaks RL law as the ball is never put in straight"

I would be obliged if anyone can quote the respective "law" that this is supposed to break.

As far as I am aware (last time I checked) Section 12, Paragraph 6(a) of the Laws merely requires that:-
"The ball shall be put into the scrum from the Referee’s side by holding it in a horizontal position with a point in each hand and rolling it along the ground into the tunnel formed by the opposing front row forwards."
I see no mention of "straight" (whatever that means?) or any other mention of the direction in which the ball is to be rolled?

U7579 ........

Far too much energy is expended either forming, using or debating the scrum in League. It's purely a vehicle for restarting the game - and a sensible opportunity for the game to be paused, allowing the players to catch their breath.

Lets face it, any side which actually decides to contest one (i.e. actually push forward) gives the opponents a heartattack through the shock of being shoved backwards.

That's not me knocking the sport of RL, far from it - i think it's brilliant. Truth is though it's generally 17 (big) backs vs 17 (big) backs these days.

111dsu4ever, Yes the backs have got bigger over the years I agree............but they are just as quick as the smaller backs of the past.
Whilst as far back as I can recall I've always witnessed a second rower run down some backs.
Bob McCarthy
Ron Coote
Mal Rielly

So all in all I don't think a lot has changed.
Cheers
