I don't defend everything, I defend what I believe to be right. You however, only see everything as being wrong when it comes to Liverpool. That's the difference.
Glen Johnson has been a great buy. England's right-back for 18m. Give us it. He has been with us a couple of years now and still has years in front of him. You don't know anything of which you talk about, you showed it with Aquilani and you are showing it with Johnson.
We Sold Crouch to Portsmouth for 11m and weren't paid it due to the problems Portsmouth were going through, we took Johnson and paid the rest, in a deal worth 17m. Portsmouth soon after went into administration which means in fact, the club made the right choice.
These are things that you DON'T know but talk about. You behave like the other sheep following what others say and that is why I don't take you seriously.

All the reports I have seen say Aquilani £17m + add ons. I can provide numerous links. Check Wiki. They assert this value and reference with quotes from Roma president...until you prove me otherwise with links of your own then why should I believe you.....If you prove me wrong then I will accept it, no worries (so long as not a caughtoffside link )
regardless of what deal you did with Pompey, it was a deal worth £18m. They were in such a mess at the time maybe you could have got a better deal like Spurs did with Lennon from Leeds at £1m, Robinson £1.5m, Keane £7m (while they still paid half his wages for 2 years) and Bale at Saints for £6m (originally £5m + add ons, but add ons settled at £1m paid up front because Saints were desperate for the money)
As I have said SO many time, Johnson is a quality RB. Englands right back! Englands second right back is Walker who cost £3m, bought at the same time! My point all along is that when funds were limited and LFC needed to stregthen in several areas, maybe spending £18m on a RB was not the best decision (coupled with £17m+ on Aquilani)
This proves my point and why people don't debate with you.
>>Difference between me and half the LFC fans is that I am prepared to admit the clubs failings in the past.
Most of us know and will admit past failings.
But if someone like you only really brings up the bad (and overexaggerates it and misrepresents it) then we 'defend' it.
Every club makes mistakes on transfers. I don't view ours as much better or worse than any other club. Especially considering what was going on with the owners and our overachievement in both the CL and league considering the starting point and overall funds spent.
G&H kicked us well down and undid a mountain of progress.
what proves your point?
I've had a few good exchanges with terentius1 on this link!
Still waiting for this link re: Aquilani. You cannot call me ignorant and then not back it up!
redconn...agreed. Some of Spurs dealings have been awful and we have wasted penty of money...Bentley, Hutton, Pavlyuchenko to name a few
I have complmented Johnson and Enrique in this thread, the latter being a real quality bargain. My main criticism is that LFC rarely do what they have done with Enrique...ie take a chance on a decent player at a bargain value. I know I have committed the cardinal sin by criticising rafa but it amazed me at the time that a manager under financial constraint spent in such a way that summer. There were very few examples of players bought by rafa for very little and being developed into something much greater...only Alonso springs to mind.
Such an approach is critical to management and all the self-sufficient teams do it, even money bags Utd have some real bargains like Evra, Vidic, Hernandez to compliment their big signings. Rafa did not seem to have that in his locker, so while £18m for Johnson may seem ok because he's a success perhaps other managers may have trusted themselves to take a risk on a player and develop them, while also spending their limited budget on other areas of the squad.
For example....when you bought Johnson, you also needed a quality LB. Enrique was at that time playing in the Championship with NUFC.
I feel that the only way to think if a fee is justified will be the value to the side over time, regardless of how much, or how little, the player cost.
I don't think anyone could argue the worth of the likes of Rooney, Bale, Drogba, Enrique, Johnson, Modric, RVP etc to their clubs, whatever the cost.
Liverpool have made many mistakes, as have other clubs, with players that didn't work out.
As for Aquilani; the mistake wasn't in buying him, it was in not keeping him and making him an integral part of the team in my opinion.
For me, I am still not certain about Henderson and Downing. They have shown flashes but I will wait to see how they develop over time, they may prove to be good buys in the future, as may Carroll. Although to be totally contrary I do think we paid too much for Carroll as do most Liverpool fans, but as I said, if he becomes a great scoring forward then fine.
In a nutshell I guess I'm trying to say that if a player becomes a great player for the club he is a bargain regardless of the fee.
