We will survive Mallorca.
Today was disgraceful for all the reasons people are pointing out. And yes, Coyle got everything wrong today.
I cannot defend the man for today and numerous other days this season.
But, we will not go down. Some of the comments on here have been nothing short of hysterical!!
"But, we will not go down. Some of the comments on here have been nothing short of hysterical!!"
It could be argued your blind faith and "we will survive" comments could be put in the hysterical box..
Results back my lack of faith.. You have to realise we are in trouble.. You don't get to be classed as a 'better fan' by ignoring the problems around you..
CEF, you are behaving like a creationist arguing with Charles Darwin!
First my faith isn't 'blind'. It is based on a lot of watching and a good understanding of football statistics.
Second, I am using the word 'hysterical' in is true definition, not the now commonly used definition.
Third, I have always accepted we are in trouble. I have stated over 20 times that we are in a relegation battle that will last all season. It's making for a very exciting end of season.
Well I thought we would survive. I thought we had turned a corner and Coyle had learned the way to get results.
I don't now. I just can't understand his rational for changing a team that's performing well, or at least better then we have all season.
It looks even more bleak knowing that we have got our backs against the wall vs Chelsea and City next. Thrown away 3 points here. I remember our clued up previous managers always used to say the sane thing in a relegation rival match, "it's not about winning, it is more important that we don't lose".
Coyle has neglected that.
"First my faith isn't 'blind'. It is based on a lot of watching and a good understanding of football statistics."
Statistics?
Crack on CEF.. Talk about points/results/positions/previous season/games won/games lost..
You explain these stats and how they warrant us surviving... Because frankly, I'm laughing at your opinions now...
And angry... At Coyle...
OK Mallorca - I will.
I did a thread last week about stats v 'Top 5'. You didn't comment - maybe you didn't see it.
I have similar stats for the 'Bottom 5'. I'll dig them out of my spreadsheet, and post them after i've eaten.
What stats show is trends. They prove nothing, i'll admit.
The point is, I do study football because I enjoy doing it. So it isn't 'blind'.
We won't go down because there are teams worse than us in this league. Ssid that before a ball was kicked, said it in Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan and now Feb. I'll be saying it in May too.

Well ..Wigan aren't one of 'em, judging off today's performance ....
There's little point debating Bolton's plight with you CEF ...if it was the last game of the season, and we needed to win 36-0 to stay up, you'd still be saying the same ole' thing ........
FirstOf - that's surprisingly unfair of you to say that. I genuinely think the main difference between myself and other posters on here, is I am not reactionary.
I am looking at the season as 38 games, not the next game. It is only my opinion, and therefore I am entitled to make it. If I am wrong, then fair enough, but at the moment I still stick to it. Obviously I will change that opinion if results mean that I have to.
For now though, we really don't need 10 threads running all slating Coyle. Now that is OTT.
Cef you are reactionary as when things got slightly better you were part of the told you so crew
Petrov - yes you are of course correct. I am reactionary when it comes to responding to the drivel spouted on here by a very very small minority. I am not reactionary when it comes to assessing my beloved BWFC.
Hope that clears that one up!!
Have you looked at the majority feeling on here?
Today looks like coyle had only played 451 as a last resort. He thought he could revert to 442 after a couple of decent results.
I am not reactionary when it comes to assessing my beloved BWFC.
*****
Being oblivious to the position we're in is your definition of a non-reactionary, then fair enough. You say that you'll change your opinion of our position " if results mean that I have to " . I presume that equates to only changing your position when relegation is a mathematical certainty? Because, if you're still so sure we've nothing to worry about, having lost at home to the bottom team in the league , and deservedly lost it too, then I can't imagine what other result would change your stance, short of us being mathematically relegated.
I'd love to be able to see a positive side to today's result / performance ...but there isn't one. All today has shown is that it was very likely that the Liverpool result was the ' blip ' ...not the Norwich one.
I'm not referring to people who think we will go down or think Coyle is out of his depth.
I react to 'Coyle is a numpty', 'SKD is a fat waste of space', 'Coyle got us relegated today'.
Posters such as yourself, Mallorca, Bricks and others from old 606 are not included in my definition of 'a very very small minority'.
I actually enjoy the banter and yes, occasionally do post comments for effect. But that's what this site is for
FirstOf - today was shocking. I will never gloss over what was an absolutely terrible performance and result. But does today really mean we are relegated?
Mathematically ...no, of course not.
But tell me ..what did you see today that convinces you that we've got what it takes to stay up?
Absolutely nothing in today's performance, formation, tactics or result.
But that is my point, today is 1/38th of the season.
I saw plenty in the Everton and Liverpool performances.
You see, I know I have set myself up as some sort of 'pro-Coyle' lobbyist, and that actually was never my intention - it just seemed to happen.
While 5 teams are separated by 2 points, I am going to believe we will stay up.
But that is my point, today is 1/38th of the season.
I saw plenty in the Everton and Liverpool performances.

If today was an isolated incident ...I'd agree with you. But, to turn your ' percentages ' argument around, we've now had 25/38's of the season ..a substantial percentage. We've probably seen Bolton looking good for about 6/38's ...and poor for 19/38's of the season. This is backed up by the fact that we're next to bottom of the league. As you're a man who obviously sets great store with statistics, I'm struggling to understand why you are so intent on flying in the face of those dismal figures ....
FirstOf - I am really not disagreeing with you. This season has been shocking - noone can deny that. It is very disappointing considering we had high hopes, but I will not react match by match.
When I look at the whole league, the strange results so far this season, the teams arounds us, the points differential between top and bottom and the players we got in Jan and the players returning, I just cannot see us going down.
For the millionth time, this is only my opinion. I may be wrong. I desperately hope I'm right, not so I can be smug, but because it means we will be in the Prem next season.
I also think we will go to Wembley again this season. Just thought I'd throw that in for good measure!!!
Going to Wembley won't mean much at all this season, if we end up going to Watford next season!
running out of games and time only 13 to go we cant wait for holden and lee to come back to save us we have to do it without them.our home record is a disgrace by the way 9 defeats totally unacceptable.
FirstOf
Going to Wembley this season will mean a lot if we end up going to WHL next season!!
Lets be positive. It's not over until the rotund female warbles - she isn't in the building yet!!!
Gutted again! Well saying that what do we expect with Owen and his team (yes men) running the show, its now beyond repair in my opinion.Even Owens acolytes on here must be finally agree that the man is a clown.Think Bennys views last week are now looking like more profound.
To be honest I would avoid Wembley and cup runs like the plague. It destroyed us last season and the day ended up being an embarrassment
