fairpoint the whole sport at top level in Rugby League fails to even fill the stadium half full....then they have the audasity to have a pop at the Harlequins about their crowds...a bit hypocritical IMO

Says it had 45k attendance last year, thought the Millenium stadium held more than that?

Perhaps we should get out of bed with Sky then and promote more attendance, maybe the powers that be ignoring the fans as you say is having this effect.

Keep it up and I will be watching RL at my local park as the only option

Maybe Barra but wouldn't the rugby league eqivalent be the GF... or are their bigger comps in Britain that this?

GF sells enough tickets.

leago.

its not skys fault that heartlands fans couldnt give a chuff about going to watch rugby league is it??

maybe they have lost interest, or maybe they go down their local park and watch it-.-----

point about the ,millenium stadium is the speedway fraternity come from various corners of the uk to fill the stadium for the british grand prix.
the rugby league fraternity dont bother their arze with a similar event.

is it just that the rugby league fraternity dont like travelling more than 35 minutes to get to an anway game???

or maybe the older end feel they have been to enough games when they were in their prime and no longer feel they should donate a portion of their meagre pension to the sport.

the reasons are probably various but having a go at one particular team for poor attendances is a bit rich when attendances at almost every team are frankly laughable.

And how would you change it then Cheese?

Have you a magic wand or is the sport in terminal decline, is the current system working.

Hull upgraded to a new stadium and now average 11k, at the boulevard it was 6k, are facilities the issue, will Cas and Saints leap up when they open new grounds?

Will summer rugby do it for participation?

Will I ever do a Thai lady boy, oops sorry wrong website got 2 windows open.

I have no choice to watch Rugby League in a park being based in Bristol...have to say it makes a refreshing change to see 34 lads playing game....which they have to pay £90.00 per season to play....oh sorry a tabbo subject its known as expansion.

taboo as well.....

i dont say i have the answers at all, merely pointing out that bashing a relative newcomer to the sport isnt a solution to anything.

modern day facilities are important to people, no matter how much some folk say they want to stand in pizz soaked terraces cos its traditional, the vast majority prefer their hand earned cash to be at least providing a modicum of comfort and i cant help but agree.

one thing thats difficult to change is the parochialism of the fans, im not sure what can be done about u lot really.

things can be changed of course but that might require more luck that rugby league deserves.

Expansion cannot be forced, it can be nurtured not imposed, it can be teased out not yanked, it can be tempted not pushed.

Expansion is natural if the game is great it needs only a gentle push to gain momentum, then and only then will the horse partake of the water.

The example is Cats, natural place and a success, Paris not, London not yet start small and grow from the bottom up not top down, then London will succeed,

doesn't bother me lad its whats on the field that counts...whats the point in having a shiny new stadium with loads of empty seats...

maybe rugby league in uk isnt all its cracked up to be???

all this "greatest game" nonsense. its been said so often by fans of rugby league that they have only managed to convince themselves and very few others.

the product needs to be vastly improved before folk will come and watch it i feel.

fans of any sport want to see the best available, the world class players, the best. so possibly the problem is quotas and such restrictions??

expansion can be forced also i feel, if the london team was chock full of top quality players and they were winning games and playing great rugby , you can be ur azz the ground would be full.

i can understand what ur saying barra, but folk want a seat, they want a clean environment, they want decent, clean functional facilities.

they want to be able to take their kids and families without fear etc.

see the new grounds for growth in numbers.

perhaps Harlequins should move away from the Stoop and go back to Brentford it seemed to work there...all this trying to attract Union fans doesn't work, they had the support when they played as the Bronco's a lot of fans who used to go from Bristol to the Bronco's games stopped going because they didn't want to be associated with a Union club.

But the Millenium magic isn't a similar event... no one cares about it, like no one cared much about the "international origin".

The GF gets a far bigger attendance than the speedway, and RL fans for all across the country come to watch that, that would be the eqivalent.

change the venue's have the Magic weekend at Old Trafford, and the GF at Cardiff that way more fans will attend because as Cheese says for some reason RL fans hate to travel more than 25 miles for an away game...that way Cardiff will be a sellout as well.

posted on 27/6/11

its a similar event in that its in the same venue and club fans are encouraged to go and see a big event in one place away from the usual league stuff.

as far as i see on the box speedway league doesnt attract massive crowds but they sure do head to wales for the big jolly.

as barra says, old trafford is just up the road, of course heartland fans will go....lol.

also barra, some league fans wont travel 25 mile for a home game never mind an away one.

It isn't a big event though, thats the problem.....Challenge cup final, GF are big events.
