Keep it simple is so obvious but something that gets forgotten all too often. You have to look at the times Gerry Murphy took charge again and we suddenly seemed to play much better football. The thing was we werent but he knew our players had a level and kept them within that. I would always rather a simple pass than a tricky backheel or highlight reel attempt.
We do have skilful players but you only have to look at the very top players in the world and more often than not they keep it simple but do it well.
I never understand why we think our centre backs are Franz Beckenbauer who can pinpoint long balls for attacks! All that happens is we lose possession quickly. When we move the ball well, players make runs and make themselves available to pass on the ground we scare teams in this division.
Oh M G Jacko .. Have I died and gone to heaven ..
.. Clark Finally Fired !!
.. James Berrett N Powers Team of The Week Midfield Player .. and now someone on here affording ..
.. Gerry Murphy faint praise without (as yet) me ole m8 Inter jecting with crit ..
Whatever next .. .. Its a fulsome 5 sz from me Jacko ..
I think a change of formation is needed too, something like a 3-4-3, to show that Town are serious about grabbing that auto spot. I'm confident we would still make the playoffs if we lost a few.
Anyone else with formation ideas?
& right on que........................
How is ya ellvee,
3-3-4 !!!
Ya know it makes sense, so you took no notice of me last night
'Blitzkreg'
1 centre back,
Rhodes & Novakkattack up front,
Waaaaardy & Roberts whipping 'em in,
Gudjohnson 9is good - never mind osgood)
Arfield
Kay....midfield combotriffic !
And the TOWN go marching on
Anybody....
ANYBODY
who doesn't agree,
Knows 'jacko' about football...
How simple do you want it to be....
The 'Gelderd Ender' goes home tonight,
Normal service will be resumed........
I'm alright Darn!
Four up front is a bit much for me, that's why I'd have four in the middle. Three strikers can make a dent in any defense.
Who would have Alan Lee up front tonight? No way for me. He might be physical, but he doesn't know where the goals are. Higginbotham and Novak to start for me!
What I've seen of 3-4-3 is quite impressive...on the basis that most teams play 4-4-2, so why 4 at the back marking 2 ?
It means somewhere else they have 4 marking our 2...
3 up top is really intimidating, and providing your 2 wide midfielders are fit enough to drop back to make the back 3 a back 5....
Imagine the confusion to 2 CB's have 3 to mark..do you drop a midfielder back, thus handing the midfield initiative over, or match up and hope your players are as good as the opposing ones..
Exactly Jacko!
Stevenage and other teams would be bamboozled and finally, not the Town players!
& when WE defend a corner the same applies Jacko !
Rhodes (or whoever is playing tonight) on the centre spot,
Ward & Roberts almost stood on the half way line by the flags...Are you going to tell me any defense won't have 4 back marking them.
Re- Lee 'ellvee'.
I'm with you on that one.
Novak / Higgy to start...BUT.
Essential they are running onto through balls,
Plenty of 'holes in the pockets' eh !
I've got a good feeling again for another positive result tonight! No final score prediction, just that Town will score more than Stevenage!
You've nailed it ellvee.
Just pull up along side ..
& OUT GUN 'EM.
Stevenage 1-3 TOWN
Three upfront could work with Lee in the middle and Higgs and Novak doing the running either side. With Ward and Roberts on the flanks it could have 5 in attack which would give oppositions a lot to deal with.
Wont work every game but could be worth a go. We need an early goal tonight to get things in motion so going at them from kick off is the way to go
To be honest Jacko Protocol says much of the posting on this thread should be on't official Match Thread BUT hell Its Am Chuffinch's one anyway and lets be honest we all know where his/her loyaltys lie i.e. with the Clic a Bl Boring Pic Postcard site over there.. & a Moderator to boot too .. Talk about wanting to be friends with the lambs while running with the Wolves .. Bah Off with you Chuffinch there's a few hawks circling over here .. .. only Joe King Chiff Chaff here take this .. .. at least your not afraid to risk an appearance on The Site where it alll appens m8 .. ..
My biggest fear tonight is for a ~ Town Sending Off ~ Specifically if either of em play, Joey (as he's not right on the pace yet and is also a retaliator) & Al Lee because even when he's not meaning to elbow an opponent outa site ~ It sure as hell Looks Like He Is ..
GSM (Grayson Snodin Miller) to their credit have said (and t b f I embellish their quote just a bit) Do NOT Go Bust a Gut trying your best to Impress Us ..
Just go all out to Impress the rest of your teamates ..
Oh Do I Like The Sound Of That .. .. Darn wondered where you'd bin .. Where you going .. ? .. Mods let us get away wi Moyder on 2 Freds yesterday .. Purely high spirits and I'm everso grateful to em ..
The Treads did miss your exotically continental Great Barrier Reef Oz input tho .. ..

God who's done his 'make Up' .. Looks like a girl ..
Simple Simon.
You do realise when he says keep it simple, he means sit back and don't attack, don't you?
And he changed our team and formation every week, towards the end of the season.
He also dropped key players, he even dropped Beckford.
It wouldn't suprise me if he dropped Rhodes, I bet he does tonight.
Bet you get dropped every Saturday night.
Rhodes is on international duty, check your facts please.
Did not last long did it?
Honeymoon over.
In his time at Leeds he could not win big solid teams away from home.
At this level we did not beat any top 11 teams away.
Looks like its still happening.
Good look in playoffs.
2 goal lead and fked it up
I how that happend so many times here.
Wait till he sits on 1 goal leads at pis poor teams.
Y'all got 3 more years of this.
Have fun
To be fair though Stevenage have only lost 3 times at home this season and can boast a 5-1 victory at home to Wednesday, 1-0 against runaway leaders Charlton, 2-1 victory over Sheff Utd and 4-2 against MK. That is all the teams above them beaten apart from tonight where they drew with Huddersfield. Also worth noting they drew with Spurs at home.
Overall will feel very disappointing especially when chasing Utd and having lead 2-0 well into the 2nd half, nevertheless a decent result.
I know Rhodes is on international duty, I was joking.
Meme is spot on.
The best thing you can do is hound him out now, don't try to be positive.
What the hell is wrong with you, Ken?
You're always there to defend Grayson.
You'd probably wipe his ****.
How can you call it a decent result after being 2-0 up with about 20 mins to play?
Hudds just lucky peno was missed or they could got beat.
Should have lost that game had Stevenage not missed their penalty.
Same old story, lucky Grayson & plenty of goals conceded.
Enjoy his cliches tonight won't you?
You liked the 'stumbling over his cliches' line, didn't you?
