This article is worth a read, I recommend all Arsenal fans read it. It is time we become honest with ourself. I like the way the article breaks down what has been going on at the club on the footballing side not the financial side which is what the club seems to only care about.
Please read and discuss!
Can we be honest?

i really don't get the modern football fan.
unless you have an owner pouring millions in every year you "lack ambition"? well.... no. Since when did the world of football become nothing more than a bunch of rich guys throwing their toys at each other? i'm sure there was a sport under all the squit once....

We have 2 billionaires at the club but we lack investment to achieve anything significant, and a dust filled trophy room and widespread apathy about that fact !

Think long term. We are in a far more viable position than the big spending teams. Do you really think the likes of Man City can sustain their club while spending the amounts of money they are at the moment?

Lack of ambition is when you sell your best players for 'dizzying' prices and replace them with cheap/average ones. What's the point of qualifying for the CL when you're can't even hold on to your best players?
Even Spurs, without the CL money, managed to hold onto Modric and Bale whilst adding Adebayor(loan) and Parker to the squad.

i guess what i'm getting at is that refusing to sell out your club's traditions for shirt term gain is now, according to some, a sure sign that you lack ambition and don't want to win anything, which is frankly bs of the smelliest, slimiest kind.

I agree with you, ZZ. But I do worry about Arsenal getting left behind if things carry on the way they appear to be going in football.
I mean, nowadays we can't compete with clubs like PSG and Malaga when it comes to transfer fees and wages. In fact it seems the biggest draw the club has presently is players having the chance to work with Arsene Wenger.
What the heck are we going to do if he were to leave?

I'm sure the board would never let that happen. They're a conservative bunch financially but they're not stupid.
If there was a risk of Arsenal getting left behind, I believe they would be jumping up and down to preserve the status of the club as one of the top sides in the world.

the face of football has changed a lot in the last 10 years. pretty much all for the worse. we can only hope that with the ffp and uefa getting serious about club's risky behaviour that in the next 10 it will make a change for the better and redress some of the balance - club's owners simply won't be able to subsidise the clubs as they have for the last few years anymore.

Arsenal seem to be only a stepping stone for the more talented and capable players, and a haven to the ok/average. Nothing to do with Wenger being there anymore, as he hasn't been a winning coach for well over half a decade now !
