it finishes with the same old boring message of getting rid of deadwood and brining in new players
Get rid of deadwood and bring in new players you say..?
Revolutionary idea that.
"hampshire gooner"
Says it all... chose us over several top flight clubs closer to him
Bet he wishes he picked Chelsea
It's not about the trophies it's about the enjoyment.... if you cant enjoy football without a trophy at the end of the season then i feel sorry for you and suggest you start following on of the old firm
it's a well written article but it pretty much states the obvious as well.
There are some really good Arsenal blogs out there.
The Online Gooner isn't one of them.
Online Gooner, ANR, Le Grove - 3 of the most negative pieces of garbage out there
Although blogs like Untold Arsenal do go too far the other way

"I read in a recent Gooner referendum that most people would have taken our ‘comfortable third-place’ spot ahead of being in two semi-finals (the FA Cup and Champions League) as was Chelsea’s position at that time. It all seems a little bit foolish now does it not?"
====================================
No, it does not, anything can happen in football and that was quite frankly a fluke. The reason that Chelsea managed to win the Champions League is because Barcelona and Bayern inexplicably bottled it. Credit to Chelsea for hanging in despite being the much weaker team - but they should never have been given the chance and that sort of result happens - and the nature of football means that it WILL happen again - once in a blue moon.
How long are your arms?
Can you grab me a monster munch?
It's all relative.
The whole point about being an elite club/sports person is to come 1st and win titles. It's all about winning,....end of. Anything less is an under/non achievement.
On the other hand, if you are saying that Arsenal are not a top organisation anymore, then you are right. We must content ourselves with the fact that we are still taking part in top competitions as that is probably all we are likely to achieve until we "become elite".
-----------------------
You claim it's all relative, yet you've gone on to make a pretty absolute statement.
It's only about winning from a certain perspective. For me, it's never been about the silverware. Even when we were winning cups and trophies, it was about playing entertaining football.
I'm satisfied by that because it's what I'm looking for. A fan who is only satiated by trophies may want to jump ship and buy a Man City shirt.
You guys can slate the article. I just look at the facts, which are easy to depict : We have won NOTHING to justify us being a "big" club and all of those players that have left us in pursuit of winning trophies have done exactly what they set out to do, the ones that have failed still cant be blamed because since they would have less of a chance of doing it at arsenil

Why do you think organisations pay top dollar for as much top talent as they can get/afford ?
It's to stack things in their favour so they have a better chance of winning. It's a whole difference philosophy when you're at and around the top. You're there and paid to deliver results not mediocrity.

I would disagree, if we were able to keep the players like Helb, Flamini, Adebayour to name a few that left us prematurely we would've won something.
But I agree, we can't call ourselves a big club these days but then we are just one trophy away from claiming that title again!
