Mavies

Looks like Swansea are looking at Mavies

I think he would fit their style perfectly and if they get a decent amount for the guy they are trying to sell then we should be very interested

I think a deal at £6mil would be a fair price and I'd be happy to let him go for that

Yes, because he has a long established track record of saying players aren't for sale and then selling them doesn't he Petrov.

I actually think Gartside believes he does that. This is no Anelka or Cahill scenario were they we're going regardless of him. In this case if mavies knocks on his door and says I am interested in going then he can negotiate a price. So he will probably go for £1.5m

According to Nixon it is not happening so who will we get to replace him??😄

If he goes then Vela is more than capable of filling that gap and I might add that in a fully fit first team is Mavies going to start anyway?

He's a definite starter in a fully fit midfield - him, Fab and Holden would be a very strong centre midfield three.

Hes a very good player in a not very good squad. If he played for swansea then i think he would thrive.

We shouldnt accept less than about 8 million, but saying that i would rather he stays

I'd rather throw Vela in, he's got the potential to be a much better player than Mavies, and he's got a spark about his play that Mavies lacks. From what I've seen of him anyway.

Mark Davies excels when we play the system that most suits him. We probably had our best run of results and performances when we were doing that. Then inexplicably Coyle went to 4-4-2 for the Wigan game at home (Mark Davies scored, but was otherwise pretty anonymous from my recollection). Then Coyle's hand was pretty much forced back to 4-4-2 with all the injuries to central midfielders, which also meant that Reo-Coker and Davies were always playing 90 minutes of every game which was going to take it's toll.

If we're going to keep him then we either need to play the system that best suits him, or he will need to start performing in a 4-4-2. I'd rather keep him though, if he plays at his best he's so much better than the championship.

I don't think its the formation that affects Mavies. He's a professional footballer fgs and the difference between a 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 as far as Mavies is concerned is not a huge amount.

I think its the players playing alongside him and around him that are the key to Mavies. If we have a midfield creator alongside him he tends to do great, but put defensive midfielders alongside him and he goes missing.

Sometimes its all to easy to say that formation doesn't suit him, but its the players around him. The big trick is to not let him have too much thinking time, i.e. some one puts a ball through to him, and he's the player that can unlock defences. Give him the responsibility of play-making and time on the ball and imo he's pretty rubbish.

I thought he was a big disappointment last season, but looking back at some of the performances he was having to play that link up role between def-mids and forwards. This season if he stays I really think that OC should consider building the team around him and use him as an attacking midfielder/3rd striker and leave the play-making to Holden and Vela.

I really hope Vela starts against Burnley. Prob won't happen tho.
