Sir Alex Ferguson has today released a statement about Manchester United planned share issue.
"Being aware of the media coverage that is currently ongoing I felt, on this occasion, that I should make my position clear to the Manchester United fans.
"In regards to suggestions that I have praised the Glazer Family because I stand to financially benefit from the proposed IPO, there is not a single grain of truth in this allegation. I do not receive any payments, directly or indirectly, from the IPO.
"Ultimately, I run the football side of this club and in order to do this, you need backing from above.
"The Glazer family have let me get on with my job, there is no interference or obstruction, only support.
"My decisions and beliefs are not based around what is best for my personal financial gain. That is an accusation that insults me. If that was the case, I would have left Old Trafford a long time ago.
"I am speaking out because I do not want a situation to develop whereby the media and other parties create a rift, however small, between myself and any Manchester United fan. I've spent 25 years of my life pushing this club forward and not only could I not have done it without those fans, I do it for them."

I have to say that I myself feel deeply insulted for the man. I wonder how those who stupidly believed the gossip which is all it was and have been calling for Sir Alex's head over the past couple of days are feeling right now? How they could slate him without knowing the facts I really don't know. They should be hanging their heads in utter shame!

I'm in agreement with you that doubters should feel ashamed but a public statement is hardly going to change their minds is it?

Not my problem.
I can't help other peoples ignorance.

Well yeah I suppose it is but you get what I mean.
I don't think (andersred) really dislikes Fergie, and he looked silly on Sky News and has since apologised, and all those who signed that ridiculous letter either. People are just fed up with it all.
Fergie is the glue that is holding it all together. Turning on him is foolish. He is the single best thing to ever happen to Manchester United FC.
My anger is aimed 110% at the owners. This isn't Fergie's fault. He just has to get on with things.

I don't any, at least many fans felt he was going to gain anything financially from the IPO. However this statement clearly states they have backed him on footballing matters, which I think we already knew.
He doesn't suggest they are good for the club in financial or general terms.

I think this is being overblown from section factions of the media.
Personally, i dont even know why SAF even bothers to give this scandalous story the oxygen of publicity it certainly didn't deserve - he is above that.
I might question some of SAF's actions - as is my prerogative- but i have never remotely thought he had his hands in something sinister.

What a joke. Even if he was involved, how does that matter? It will be reward for his work which no one can say he does not deserve. Just a bunch of foolishness.

I didn't even know any Utd fans had said such things. That's disgraceful.
I also feel insulted on Fergie's behalf. Anyone who thinks the man is motivated by money knows nothing about him.

PS After evrything SAF has achieved he is still not even the highest paid manager in the league (or so I read recently to my surprise).
Does anyone really believe for a second that Fergie could not have left United to earn more money elsewhere at any point in the last 20 years?

I think its telling that this thread only got 50 odd comments. If Fergie had admitted some allegiance with Glazer then some posters would have had a field day.

He strongly hinted at this in the statement. He's obviously had big money offers over the years, but he loves United.
