Everybody has to be given the benefit of the doubt and we should make people welcome until they prove otherwise. We have to encourage new people to join the site and the level of suspicion can only serve to deter new people joining.

It isn't alcoholics annonymous, no introduction necesary. Rightly or wrongly it does make people suspicious when a new user announces their arrival. Is this the only forum you've ever joined?

No it's not the only forum I've ever joined, but I do know from having been around reading a lot that it's a fairly close knit community.I've seen some posters just turn up, start spouting nonsense clearly on the WUM, then disappear a few days later, so it seemed more genuine to sort of introduce myself.
