Players wearing gumshields?

Not often you see players wearing gumshields but the question is why not?

Frimpong has been seen wearing one a few times since his return and in all honesty it makes sense.

Question is why is it not more widespread?

shouldn't it be part of their regulation kit, like shinpads?

Have you ever worn a gum-shield? Its friggin annoying. I like to feel as comfortable as possible when playing football. Plus its not as if there is a desperate need for one.

It's not a pressing matter, so it won't be changed.

Goal line ruddy technology isn't even here yet. And the only thing I've seen that bloke standing by the goal line do was in the match us v Montpieller where he gave the penalty (not complaining, it was the correct call).

Football does not have significant contact to the head so its not needed. I did see someone wearing one once in pub league game as he thought it made him look hard and intimidating. It had the opposite effect and he got targeted for quite a few fouls.

As you dont expect a blow to the mouth like boxing or even rugby I take the view only a wimp who cant take it would wear one. I've had teeth a little loose and wobbly after getting hit in football but still wouldnt wear one.
