FA Cup Final 1987

The 1987 FA Cup Final took place on 16 May 1987 at Wembley Stadium. It was contested between Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs were appearing in their third final in seven seasons, having won the trophy in 1981 and 1982 and were strong favourites, while unfancied Coventry were appearing in their first ever domestic cup final. Spurs were going for a record eighth victory and had never lost a final. In an exciting match, Coventry eventually triumphed 3–2 after extra time.

"Spurs were going for a record eighth victory and had never lost a final."

FA Cup final. Our Wembley record went in 1982.

You just missed out on some classics! Spurs-Coventry, Man Utd 3 Palace 3, Liverpool 3 Everton 2. (and Wimbledons giant killing of Liverpool)

A golden period for classic cup finals!

Yeah i know. I keep thinking i might remember the 90 final but i'm probably confusing that with footage i've seen since. Was that when Ian Wright burst on the scene?

Definitely remember 91 though...vividly remember Pearce's freekick, Lineker's penalty miss, Walker's og and Gazza's awful injury (when he fouled Garry Charles)

Yeah, 1990 Ian Wright came off the bench and got 2. Suffered a couple of broken legs (not both at the same time!) in the season and half before, so was a doubt to be able to even be involved. The replay was dull though.
You also had the 4-3 semi between Palace and Liverpool which was amazing.

Gazza was so fortunate not to be sent off in that final. He did Garry Parker in the chest in about the first minute which was a nailed on yellow in most circumstances. That final pretty much summed his whole career up, so much hope, so much promise, but a lack of discipline and injury stopped him being the huge star he should have been. Shame.

funnily enough i was going to do an article posting that link earlier.

probably the first club game i remember well.

as a warwickshire lad, my resolve as a 5 year spurs fan was tested to the limit by endless local news programmes about coventry's bid for glory.

Spurs should have achieved so much more around this time. A mixture of poor managers and Sugar and Venables falling out spectacularly pretty much destroyed all the potential you had and put you back a good few years.
