The League 2 tournament has concluded and amongst what is becoming the customary chaotic start all in all an excellent tournament with notable achievements was had. Here is the review hope you enjoy it and don’t forget to check out the updated rankings!
So we start in officially the strongest group ever seen in a tournament and with the withdrawal of Batman, we had five top quality players in SpursBoy, Voom, Comu, Tyke and Terry and it would be Comu who came out on top. He edged passed Terry in a close 2 – 1 affair, took a point off SpursBoy in a 2 – 2 game which saw him equalize in the last min, however he came undone against Voom suffer a frustrating 2 – 0 defeat. He dusted himself off and smashed Tyke 3 – 1, was already 3 – 0 up by 20 min mark, so he topped the group of death! Voom was to follow and despite his win against Comu he could only manage draws against Terry and SpursBoy leaving him having to beat Tyke to makes things comfortable, which he did 4 – 1. This was not the group concluded however, with players pulling out the two third best players went through aswell and with Terry impressively drawing with SpursBoy and Voom he unfortunately fell to close defeats against Comu and Tyke which resulted in a bottom placed finish. This set up a winner takes third place match between SpursBoy and Tyke, SpursBoy dominated from start to finish winning 4- 0 to secure his place as best third place finisher out of the three groups.
Off to a revised Group B now with Choice and Tez joining debutants Virus and Henry alongside ever-present Ludy. A tight group saw Virus top it staying unbeaten through beating both Ludy and Choice by large margins. This followed up by a hard fought draw with Henry and a lacklusture 0 – 0 with Tez saw him through to the knock-outs. Henry edged through in second place winning Ludy in a close encounter 2 – 1 and beating Tez in an entertaining 5 – 3. However he was downed 2 – 1 by Choice which made for an uncomfortable passage through, but through none the less. Ludy would edge out Choice with his customary inconsistent performances i.e losing 5 – 1 to Virus, but beating Choice 5 – 0 and edging passed Tez 2 – 1. Commiserations to Choice and Tez, respectable performances, Ludy ends his 6 tournament group-stage exit run with progression as second best third place finisher!
Now on to the largest group ever seen at a tournament, a six player group containing debutant May, returning Andrei, Wils, Saint, Bale and Hengy. Surprise package May cruised this group perhaps being the most impressive player in the group stages. He only dropped the two points to Andrei in a dour 0 – 0 winning the rest of his games including a 5 – 1 thrashing of Wilsbowski. Andrei was next to follow making it slighty harder with three draws, but beat Wils and Hengy to assure he followed May into the knock-outs. Wils saw off Saint and Bale to take third place with close wins against Saint and Hengy, whilst Hengy himself only managed to pick up the two points finishing bottom. Wilsbowski unfortunately missed out on a third place progression as Ludy and SpursBoy performed better overall in there groups.

The first knock-out saw Henry handed a tough assignment in his first knock-out fixture with three time winner SpursBoy his opponent. Henry just didn’t get the required breaks in this match to beat SpursBoy and he ran out a close 2 – 1 winner, SpursBoy marches on in persuit of his fourth title, whilst Henry can be proud of his debut!
Next up another debutant in Virus going against friend Voom. There was no room for friendship in this contest not with a semi-final place at stake! Virus made a game of it, but Voom triumphed in a close 2 – 1 victory and goes on yet again to play SpursBoy. Good debut Virus, expect to see good things from you in the future.
To the other section of the draw now saw Andrei v Comu. Comu used his experience to see off Andrei 2 – 1 in what was a successful return for Andrei and he fulled accepted his loss without the hissy fits we are used to! Comu marches on.
Last but not least we have Ludy taking his long awaited berth in the knock-outs whilst May was also in unknown territory. It would be Ludy who took the lead and looked like going through till May altered his game plan and ran out 3 – 1 victor, Comu awaits for him. Let’s hope Ludy doesn’t leave it another six tournaments to reach this stage again!
The first semi-final saw the two dominant forces in SpursBoy and Voom square off yet again and it would be Voom who progresses 2 – 0. An efficient performance by Voom to hand Spursboy his first ever defeat in regulation time, historic indeed. SpursBoy exiting in the semi-finals to Voom surely signals the end of his dominance If Voom goes on to win this? I’ll leave that for you guys to decide.
The second semi-final sees Comu with a great chance to reach his first final for a good three or four tournaments with debutant May surely dropping out at this stage? Well it didn’t go to script a missed early penalty from Comu set the tone of this match as May edged him out 1 – 0, if only that penalty had gone in it could’ve been so different for Comu, May is in dreamland!
So the final saw Voom against the player he recommended the tournaments too in May, would he regret this decision? Not a chance he killed May off before he could get going with two early quick-fire goals settling this final and securing his second consecutive title. May can hold his head up high in a fantastic debut and I’m sure he won’t be far off again in future tournaments!
So there you have it Voom clearly staking his claim and ousting SpursBoy, can anybody stop him? Find out in the next tournament, the German League!
