Schmeichel on Rooney

Peter Schmeichel has revealed that Wayne Rooney told him he never handed in an official transfer request to Manchester United.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I know Sir Alex Ferguson came out and said Wayne asked for a transfer, but I have spoken to Wayne and he said he never did.

“He hasn’t said he wants to go to Chelsea, Arsenal or anywhere else. I hope United play Wayne against Chelsea on Monday. That will put everything to bed.

“David Moyes has said many times that Wayne is not going anywhere — but when he says that, no one listens.

“If you stick him up front you will get 25 or 30 goals. If you play him in midfield you will get someone as close as you can get to replace Paul Scholes.

“I think he wants to play up front and score goals, but he will do anything asked of him."

So what do we make of this? We've been speculating all summer about Fergie possibly misinterpreting Rooney, and this isn't some sort of wind up its from a goalkeeping legend and an ambassador of the club.

I would think that if he started causing problems in the dressing room

..............

But he isn't though, is he?

Has Robb stated where the source of the story is?

To add a further point

The ones I see as clearly being in the know realise about the fact Rooney predominantly plays at 10

I ask this

Why are people saying Rooney is stropping because RVP is now the main striker instead of him?

I've been saying all Summer, mainly to deaf ears, that Rooney's 'problem' has aboslutely nothing to do with the arrival of RVP because they both play in different positions anyway. Welbeck was the one who suffered the most with RVP's arrival.

The press have been stating that the Roo has been sulking about RVP all Summer and so many took that as fact.

Macca, I think it's more down to the focus of the team rather than positions.

Even with Berba, Hernandez Owen or Welbeck playing in front of him the team was usually geared towards getting the best from Rooney. I now don't think this is the case as it's switched to RVP. And so even though he's not playing in the same position Rooney has had to take a back seat as the main man in the team.

He did this with Ronaldo without any problems but the circumstances were completely different.

------------------
I can't see any difference personally. Rooney still played at 10 and worked up a good understanding with RVP just as he was doing with Welbeck the season before

RVP is simply more clinical than Welbeck and Rooney just had some demons to deal with

I don;t belive for one minute Roo's probs had anything to do with RVP, or playing at 10 which is his normal position

I think his relationship with Fergie broke down for reasons unknown (possibly his lifestyle maybe) and also Im not sure Roo was overly happy having to cover, at times, for our inept midfield and wingers although I will add that Roo did actually tweet at the time that he was loving playing in midfield as he got to see so much more of the ball

I think Roo and Fergie fell out before xmas personally and that reflected in Roo's attitude because early season, he was absolutely firing including running City ragged at the Etihad
