Lloris

Well we now know why Hugo had a bit of a howler in the France game midweek.

He had had a bout of gastroenteritis prior to the match & lost nearly half a stone, which left him a bit weakened and struggling during the match on Tuesday.

That is possibly why he mistimed a couple of jumps on Saturday too. Hope you get back to full health & fitness by the weekend Hugo!

Hugo got lucky.
Even from different camera angles it was close, but if the ref had been closer he may have called it .

This is about the Norwich one

Cardiff would have 100% been a red

Norwich punch-out : not last man or clear goal-scoring opportunity.

"Outside his own penalty area, the goalkeeper has the same restrictions
on handling the ball as any other player."

That just refers to the fact that neither the GK or an outfield player can handle the ball outside.

Do you know what the punishment is for each?

I always thought that a deliberate handball by the keeper (obviously outside the box) was a sending off.

That is a bit contradicting. How can you say that a deliberate handball outside the box is different in the 2 circumstances?

same restrictions = same fouls/punishments

when you leave your area you're the same as all the other players

But isnt a deliberate handball by an outfield player punishable by a red card too?

if it denies a goalscoring opportunity then yes

just ignore the fact that he's a keeper because it's irrelevant as soon as he crosses the 18

Really?

Lloris was last man v Cardiff. If he doesn't handle the player is heading towards goal with the ball under control and has an open goal.

Against Norwich, not only was the ball in the air and not under any control, but there were another two players between the ball and the goal. Plenty of work to do to even get a shot off.

Handling the ball is identical to a foul. A foul just outside the box isn't an automatic red, but it is if you are the last man.

A player handling on the line gets a red card, but outside the box it's a yellow.

HRH,

I said ages ago in this article that the debate should probably be more around whether it was a goal scoring chance or not - ans it seems this is what is dividing us on this debate.

I believe that the fact he he had to punch it - and couldnt head or kick it - shows to me that he had to take desperate measures to deny the goalscoring chance.

You, on the other hand, from what i can tell, do not believe this is the case.

I think this is why we're at a crossroads, and not because of the laws of the game. Its one where ideally we could both sit in front of a tv and watch the replay, and make our points.
