Liverpool absolutely thrashed Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday evening as they came away with a five-goal win.

After a cagey opening for both sides, Liverpool settled and went on to dominate the first half. The first goal came on 18 minutes as Jordan Henderson capitalised on a slip by Michael Dawson to play it through for Luis Suarez to slot into the far corner.

Liverpool continued to dominate and were guilty of missing a few good chances, but they doubled their lead five minutes before the break with a real mess in the Spurs defence. Firstly Henderson took a shot which was saved by Hugo Lloris, and it then fell for Suarez whose shot was also saved. But it fell back to Henderson and he made no mistake on his second attempt, as Lloris was left wondering where the help was from the surrounding defenders.

In the second half, Tottenham started playing a bit better but their chances of a comeback took a real blow as Paulinho received a straight red card for a high boot into Suarez's chest.

With 15 minutes remaining, Liverpool killed off the game once and for all as Suarez crossed it in for Jon Flanagan to smash in his first ever goal for Liverpool in off the underside of the bar.

As Spurs tried in vain to get a consolation goal, Liverpool continued to rip apart their defence at will, and substitute Luis Alberto put Suarez through to chip it beautifully over the onrushing Lloris. And the rout was complete as Suarez played it into Raheem Sterling with a minute to go and he slotted it into the net.

The result takes Liverpool back up to second place and two points adrift of leaders Arsenal, with big games coming up away to Manchester City and Chelsea.

annoying my link closed before the gerrard, jamie, souness post match had really wanted to see that..

i expected a loss today, would have taken a point..

Lets just hope we beat cardiff next week. then if we play like today we will at least give city a game, would love a point from that match. same for chelsea...

Before todays game i expected three losses, what a confidence booster this was.

Don't think anyone envisaged that

Well done though, you managed to help make our result against City look a little less embarrassing

I expected nothing less than a win from this, spurs can't score at home (today they couldn't even manage to shoot), they put too much faith in LoLdado's hatrick against the worst team in the russian league.

looks like the spurs fans are hiding, which is surprising considering how many of them left the game early
