I remember feeling quite pessimistic about United's future after the game described in this link:
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2005/oct/30/match.sport9
There were lots of doom-merchants carrying out post-mortems on the United empire, saying that Ferguson had lost the plot, that Chelsea were well out of reach, both short-term and long-term, and so on.
But what I was wondering was this: were we better off then than we are now? Of course, we had Rooney and Ronaldo coming through, but what is really striking is that our problem area then was midfield, just as it is now. With Keane out, I remember having Scholes and Smith in the middle; Scholes got his eye problem around Christmas and we were pairing Giggs and O'Shea by spring. Things seemed almost unfixable. Who could have guessed that we'd win the league the following season and the CL after that?
So, were we better off then then we are now?
I also found this link to the old 606, about the same game:

It's amazing reading some of those comments now...
Better or worse?

I miss Forza.

I notice that he's not on here anymore. Does this harm his reputation as a regular member? After all, regular members post things quite often.

Think he asked to have his account deleted and rode off into the roman sunset

I think you should be more positive.
I mean look what your Manager said recently:

"Oh look, here comes Oscar Wilde."
One of the best insults I've seen on here.

Reading an Article on there about Ronaldo not being good enough for United (this was summer of 2006), if only they knew at the time what happened next!

to be fair though, every United signing for the last 30 years was universally predicted by all United supporters bar none to be vastly superior to Maradonna and Pele's love child and the greatest player in football history.
Almost getting one right does warrant a in hindsight as a 'I told you so' but in general it's just a numbers game rather than accuracy.
