Gerrard's speech

Before i start this isn't a dig at liverpool so that's that cleared up, it's more an observation of modern day footballers.

At the end of yesterdays game Steven Gerrard seemed rather overcome with emotion, understandable of course with the Hillsborough tributes and such an important game but one thing got me thinking, when the players started to huddle round him the camera was right there on the spot, even probing in while he gave his speech, so he was obviously aware of that.

Now later when interviewed by Geoff Shreeves, he was asked the question "what did you say to your team mates steven" to which Gerrard swiftly replied "none of your business", fair enough but why do what he did on the pitch then with the camera and mic on if it was such a secret, why not wait till they were safely locked in the dressing room and do it there?

It all seemed a bit contrived to me, a bit for the viewers, maybe pretentious is too strong a word which is why i never used it.

Perhaps you should read it all before making a comment. Perhaps then you might be able to make a more pertinent comment rather than a silly generalisation.

It's 5 pages that contains lots if comments from LFC fans defending their captain's right to give a post match speech and shed a tear, interspersed with a few wum comments. Am I right?

No it's actually got a few idiotic comments which require defending. You'll see those if you read it.

That's what I said, wum comments. What is this great epiphany I am missing out on by not reading the whole thread? How did the discussion differ from my generalisation?

Mate you said "Haha, this is a classic. The scousers really don't like it when you say ANYTHING negative about Gerrard."

It wasn't ANYTHING negative though. It was idiotic, comments about why he should be upset on the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough when his own cousin died, why he as emotional after that and a massive game, and that it was contrived. These aren't just blasé comments that Liverpool fans are defending, they are stupid comments, so it's not just Liverpool fans defending ANYTHING negative about Gerrard.

Exactly my point. You can't blame Gerrard for his emotion yesterday. No sane person would. Yet you all still bit despite it being pretty moronic. Ergo, you don't like it when ANYTHING negative is said about Gerrard, even if its that ridiculous. Probably better to just ignore such blatant wummery in future.

That's not what you meant though was it? You're just backtracking now. You came on and made a silly comment about Liverpool fans defend ANYTHING about Gerrard, emphasising ANYTHING to say we will defend even the slightest criticism. However the criticism here was puerile and insensitive, so we weren't just defending the slightest criticism i.e. ANYTHING, we were defending some idiotic comments, to which you're now just adding.

Rivals fans .....and parasite chelsea fans sniping a team captain rallying the troops after an enourmous victory....

Oh get over yourself. You got the wrong end of the stick,. that's all. If you think I would trivialise Hillsborough like that then you have me wrong.

If this is a WUM its the worst one yet. Using a disaster to question whether someone's grief is real or made up? Using that to WUM and you think thats OK? Pathetic. It wasn't a WUM anyway.
