England were never getting out of the group

Mods please multi-board.

England are not an elite international team. Simple as.

They didn't even play badly against Italy and Uruguay, it's just that those teams have quality that England don't. Odds were that England would lose both games REALISTICALLY. And losing 2 games in the group stage of WC is pretty much game over.


If you're not an elite international team, how far you progress in the competition is directly proportional to the draw you get. England were placed in a group with two superior teams. Expecting anything other than group stage elimination would require the players to play above their capabilities.
