Costa Rica were never getting out of the group either
---------------
I'm talking about realistically. No one expected them to.
They are playing ABOVE expectations.
But Costa Rica were put into a group with THREE teams that were, on paper, superior to them, not just two. And yet, here they stand, on the verge of qualifying ahead of the lot.
Uruguay are not better than England. England simply had a really poor game. A team like Germany or the Netherlands would thoroughly dismantle Uruguay who aren't nearly as good as they were a couple of years ago.
Expecting anything other than group stage elimination would require the players to play above their capabilities.

True, I didn't think we'd get out of that group either.. but don't think I'm alone in saying we didn't play to our best - for starters we didn't put out our in form players, we stuck with a losing team.
The manager's job is to get more than the sum of his parts.. he's failed yet will stay on because there's no-one better.
It all just smacks of a lack of inspiration, the clip of Joe Hart's angry moment is telling to me - screaming your head off helps no-one and shows that he's not coping with the pressure at all. We started kicking lumps out of Uruguay after an hour.. Again, the manager's job to send them out in the right frame of mind to get the job done.
Hopefully this disappointment will spark a drastic change in the national game - B league, increased homegrown quotas.. something has to be done.
Own up. What Dopey s backed England at the Bookies
Costa Rica have looked highly motivated and well coached, far more so than England have looked
