Goal scoring record. I honestly don't think i'll be that overwhelmed by what is a fantastic achievement.
If Lineker had reached it in 92 or Owen had achieved it. For whatever reason I'd have been more impressed.
And this has nothing to do with club bias.
Injury aside i fully expect Rooney to be on at least 50 goals by the end of this qualifying campaign.
But it's perhaps the fact he's been on the international scene for 10+ years. Maybe it's only really performing at the finals of one tournament. Or maybe it's that he's 'when fit' not had a rival for his position that's gonna leave me thinking "big wowee" when he does become England's record scorer.
Now i know the lack of rivals is not Rooney's fault. But at least when they played together there was more than just Owen in the box, which meant that Shearer would get a good share of the chances. Rooney has spent a fair bit of time as England's man in the centre.
I guess it does not help that I've fallen outta love with International football.

Rooney will break it because he's been playing for a 120 years for England.
Rooney's goals to games record in competitive England games is bang average.

Rooney isn't a touch on bobby charlton who is one of the greatest ever England players. Charlton was a big game performer and a massive reason why we won the World Cup. Rooney always performs in qualification but unfortunately doesn't perform when it really matters. Shame really

I lost any sort of respect I had for Rooney when he mouthed off about the fans to the tv cameras at the 2010 world cup. He was woeful..........I hope he doesn't break the record.
