We want him in the summer but are happy to let him go to inter on loan???? Why not take him on loan with a view to perm switch in the summer!

In the Summer transfer window, I suggested we get Vlaar.

Most of the responses were along the lines of

"you only want him because he had a good World Cup"

Actually, it made perfect sense. He has a good 5 years left in him, he's cheap, he has Prem experience.

Instead, we opted for Lovren for 4-5 times the price and he's arguably been our worst signing.

Vlaar will go to United

Vlaar isn't good enough and certainly United will be looking for better than him.

We need to stop spending on defenders and start working on the one's we have. You can't just keep throwing money at a problem.

I disagree with that completely.

To say Vlaar isn't good enough is a bit like saying player 'x' is good enough - Lovren is a typical example of why that logic is flawed.

We need to 'spend' on defenders because the current one aren't good enough.

There's an old saying - you can't polish a trd and whilst players may improve and systems may help them, it's their basic football ability that concerns me.

The answer to all of this is to stop spending vast sums of money on nearly men with little experience of the Prem.

Vlaar has been here for some years now and will be very cheap given his contract.

We wouldn't make the same argument with Mignolet would we ?

I disagree. Vlaar coming into this set up will add nothing new whatsoever than what Lovren and Skrtel offer. We have to stop throwing money at defenders unless we are gonna improve on the ones we have. If not, stick with what we have and try to improve them, get them working as a unit and work on not exposing them so often.

I think Lovren has been outmuscled and caught out many times for us.

Vlaar is as solid as they come on his day. Villa might not score many goals, but they don't concede many either

I believe only 4 teams have conceded less... the current top 4

You also say stop throwing money at defenders. That's not good enough - if players aren't good enough then you have to replace.

Vlaar is cheap so any sale would probably leave us better in pocket.

If we set up like Villa our defenders would look good too. They would be exposed as often. We would get a lot of wins but we'd have good goals conceded stats.
