Rumours keep on that Inter are keen on Lamela, and obviously Xerdan Shaqiri is surplus to requirements at Inter. Huge pinch of salt, but the talk now us of a deal being offered of Shaqiri plus cash, or just a mutual interest between clubs and players.
I have liked the look of Shaqiri whenever I've seen him. He has that low centre of gravity like Sanchez - short and stocky - and difficult to knock off the ball. Physically I don't think the PL would hold any fears for him. Not afraid to take players on either.
If this was Eriksen or Chadli - proven performers for us - I'd be very hesitant to even consider this, but Lamela is a different case. We haven't seen anything fantastic from him yet and there is no guarantee we will.
If we went for Shaqiri, and sold Lamela - even without the net gain of somewhere around 10m to go towards another position - it'd be a great bit of business for me. A much more dynamic, aggessive, explosive player who appears to be more suited to our game.
I'd hate him to go to Stoke and "see what we could have won"
Shaqiri for Lamela - no brainer?

In a perfect world players would make a big effort to speak the language of the country they are playing in but we know that wont happen.
95% of foreign players come here for a massive wage packet IMO and dont give a damn about the language or the club they play for.
Lamela did improve towards the end of last season but nowhere near enough to justify his price tag yet. I think we should give him another season but I also think he needs to contribute a lot more before he can be considered a real asset to the team and I dont give a damn what the stats say about assists.

Nothing lazy about the accusation HRH, I wasn't calling you a xenophobe, I was just saying that the viewpoint is borderline. Such a disdain for a foreigner not learning a countries mother-tongue is exactly that.
I guess abhorrent is maybe a little strong
I am almost positive I have seen Soldado give an interview in English but he struggled, completely understandable. We all know how easily words can be twisted, which is why Pochettino (apparently) gave interviews in Spanish at Southampton as he didn't want to be misquoted.
It definitely isn't an issue what language they speak as I highly doubt it effects their touch or finishing (that has plagued Soldado for example). Footballers really aren't the smartest bunch, it is a real challenge being bilingual.

Not at all.
If the de-facto language of your work environment is not your native language, then you are going to have difficulties communicating any ideas/issues.
Giving interviews is different, as the things discussed in the workplace are far more constrained wrt what an interviewer may ask.

problem the foreigners have is that half the English boys they spend all day with are too thick to speak English anyway, so what chance do they have !
imagine spending the day with kyle walker. easy way to lose brain cells I reckon.

Chronic,
he consistently starts for one of the best sides in the league, performances improving, and makes lots and lots of money doing so. i doubt he goes home and cries at night.

I’ve never seen you defend a player based on the fact they are picked regularly and earn a lot of money, before. Will this be a consistent approach for each and every player from you from now on – or a one off to suit this isolated incident?
